THE AGENDA HERE SHOWS YOU THE OVERVIEW OF OUR SUMMER PROGRAMS, OUR PROGRAM DATES, SCHOOL SITES, AND THEN ADDITIONAL WAYS THAT STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS SUMMER SCHOOL

THIS SUMMER. SO, SOME KEY FEATURES FOR OUR SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM IS THAT IT WILL BE IN A FACE-TO-FACE SETTING.

IT'S TUITION FREE TO OUR CCPS STUDENTS WHO ARE MAKING PROGRESS BUT DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS.

TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED FROM OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BUS STOPS, AND BREAKFAST AND LUNCH WILL BE OFFERED TO STUDENTS AT ELIGIBLE SCHOOLS.

THE MEALS WILL BE FREE.

OUR SUMMER SCHOOL DATES AND TIMES.

YOU'LL SEE OUR SUMMER SCHOOL STARTS JUNE 24TH THROUGH JULY 18TH, MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

IT'S 15 DAYS.

AND THEN ON JULY 25TH, OUR SUMMER SCHOOL GRADUATION WILL BE HELD AT 6 P.M.

AT CTC AT HALL.

AND THAT'S ALWAYS A GREAT EVENT.

FOR CCPS ONLINE.

FROM JUNE 17TH THROUGH JUNE 25TH, WE WILL BE OFFERING SUMMER SCHOOL FOR CSPS ONLINE STUDENTS, TYPICALLY FOR ACCELERATION.

OUR SCHOOL SITES THERE ARE 19 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND FIVE SECONDARY SITES, AND YOU WILL SEE THOSE SITES ON THE NEXT SLIDE.

BUT IF YOU NOTICE OUR ELEMENTARY HAVE TWO TIERS.

THERE'S A TIER ONE FROM 730 TO 11:30 A.M.

AND THEN FOR TIER TWO FROM 9 TO 1.

AND WE DO THAT JUST BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WE HAVE ON BUSSES.

AND THEN OUR SECONDARY SCHOOL WILL BE HELD FROM 9 TO 1.

HERE YOU'LL SEE OUR ELEMENTARY SITES AGAIN.

THERE ARE 19 SITES, AND YOU'LL SEE THAT THE ASTERISK REPRESENTS EXTENDED DAY CAMP SITES.

AND THERE ARE 13 SITES IN OUR TITLE ONE SCHOOLS.

AND THE CARROT REPRESENTS WHERE OUR CULTURAL, ARTS AND WORLD LANGUAGE CAMPS WILL BE HELD.

FOR OUR REGISTRATION.

OUR REGISTRATION IS DONE THROUGH PARENT VIEW, AND WE ASK PARENTS TO REGISTER THEIR STUDENTS.

AND THEN AT THE LAST TWO WEEKS, WE WILL ALLOW SCHOOLS TO REGISTER STUDENTS IF PARENTS NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.

ONCE THE SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION CLOSES ON MAY 28TH, WE WILL OPEN A WAITLIST AND STUDENTS WHO ARE ON THAT WAITLIST.

WE WILL TRY OUR BEST TO ACCOMMODATE THEM, BUT IN THE ACCOMMODATION, TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

WE HAVE THE SOL ACADEMIES, SAT ACADEMY, AND THE WISE ACADEMIES, AND THOSE ARE STILL OPEN UNTIL JUNE 6TH.

WE HOLD OFF ON CLOSING THOSE FOR STUDENTS WHO MAY NEED THAT ADDITIONAL SUPPORT DURING THE SUMMER BECAUSE OF THEIR TEST TAKING WITH CCPS ONLINE.

THIS IS FOR ACCELERATION, AND IT CLOSED ON APRIL 28TH.

AND WE WILL SHARE THE COST OF THE DIFFERENT CAMP, THE COURSES LATER IN THIS PRESENTATION.

FOR OUR ELEMENTARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.

OUR FOCUS IS ON LITERACY AND MATH, AND IT IS IN A FACE-TO-FACE FORMAT.

WE WILL BE OFFERING BOTH PRE AND POSTTESTS DURING THE SUMMER WITH THE LEXIA AND DREAMBOX AS OUR PLATFORMS. OUR EMPHASIS IS REALLY ON ADDRESSING THE LEARNING GAPS AND CLOSING THE LEARNING GAPS AND PREVENTING ANY SUMMER SLIDE.

DURING OUR KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, WE DID PROVIDE SOME SCREENING AND SO WE WILL HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE COMING FOR KINDERGARTEN READINESS SKILLS.

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE AT NO COST TO OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ATTENDING THE TITLE ONE DESIGNATED SCHOOLS.

NOW, ONE NOTE IS THAT ATTENDANCE WE ALL HAVE WE DO HAVE ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS THIS YEAR.

WE ASK THAT PARENTS NOT HAVE THEIR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS MISS MORE THAN THREE DAYS, AS IT'S ONLY 15 DAYS DURING THE SUMMER.

AND ANY TIME THAT STUDENTS ARE NOT THERE, THEY'RE NOT LEARNING.

OUR SECONDARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.

AGAIN, IT WILL BE OFFERED FACE TO FACE TO ADDRESS ANY LEARNING GAPS.

AND FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL DURING THE YEAR, MANY TIMES THAT STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED A D OR AN F AVERAGE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS THERE WILL BE. THEY WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO TAKE 1 OR 2 COURSES.

AND IT'S TWO WEEKS IN LENGTH FOR EACH COURSE.

FOR STUDENTS WHO ONLY NEED ONE COURSE, WE'RE OFFERING A STEAM COURSE AS AN ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY.

AND THEY WILL ALSO HAVE PRE AND POST TESTING AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL USING OUR SYSTEM MASTERY CONNECT.

OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MAY TAKE ONE COURSE FOR GRADUATION CREDITS, AND THEY WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE SOL TEST BASED ON THOSE COURSES.

CCPS ONLINE, WHICH IS REALLY FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ACCELERATING.

THEY ARE TAKING AN ADDITIONAL COURSE TO GET AHEAD OR TO JUST GET SOMETHING OFF OF THEIR SCHEDULE.

AND YOU'LL SEE HERE THERE ARE FEES.

WE OFFER CCPS ONLINE TO BOTH OUR RESIDENTS FOR YEAR END AND SEMESTER, AS WELL AS WE OFFER FIRST INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NONRESIDENTS.

AND YOU'LL SEE THE COST FOR NONRESIDENTS ARE A LITTLE BIT MORE FOR OUR CSPS ONLINE.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE 1724 STUDENTS WHO HAVE REGISTERED, AND THEY HAVE REGISTERED FOR 1987 COURSES.

IT'S BEING HELD JUNE 17TH THROUGH JULY 25TH, AND THE TIME THAT THEY SPEND IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE FACE-TO-FACE TIME THAT OUR IN-PERSON STUDENTS SPEND. FOR SOL SAT AND WEISER ACADEMY.

THESE ARE TEST PREP ACADEMIES AND THEY'RE FREE TO STUDENTS.

THE SOL ACADEMY IS FOR STUDENTS WHO PASS AN SOL.

I MEAN, SORRY, PASSED THE SOL COURSE, BUT FAIL THE SOL.

THE SAT ACADEMY IS FOR RISING 11TH AND 12TH GRADE STUDENTS, AND THIS IS FOR TEST PREP.

AND THEN OUR WISE ACADEMY IS FOR STUDENTS WHO PASS THE ECONOMICS AND PERSONAL FINANCE COURSE BUT FAIL THE WISE TEST.

AND THIS IS A RETEST OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

ALL OF OUR SOL AND WISE TESTING SITES ARE HELD ON SITE, AND THEN ACADEMIES WILL BE HELD AT MIDLOTHIAN HIGH SCHOOL AND CARVER COLLEGE AND CAREER.

AND THOSE TIMES ARE FROM 920 TO 1240.

ESL FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY PROGRAMS. OUR ENGLISH LEARNERS WILL BE HAVING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND THEIR APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTIONAL LEVEL.

LEVEL ONE AND TWO STUDENTS WILL FOCUS ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT, AND OUR LEVEL THREE AND FOUR STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THEIR GRADE LEVEL CONTENT CLASSES.

FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES FOR ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INSTRUCTED IN THE VIRGINIA CENTRALIZED STANDARDS OF LEARNING, WHICH IS KNOWN AS VSOL, WE'RE OFFERING SPECIFIC PROGRAMS EXCLUSIVELY TO STUDENTS WITH IEPS.

IT WILL BE IN A SMALLER GROUP SETTING.

STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED REINFORCEMENT SKILLS AND MATH, LITERACY AND FUNCTIONAL SKILLS, INCLUDING COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL SKILLS.

WHILE ESY IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE A SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM, WE DO OFFER IT DURING THE SUMMER AND DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, AS WELL AS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS, AND THE ELIGIBILITY FOR ESY IS DETERMINED BY THE CHILD'S IEP TEAM.

NOW TO SOME ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

THE NEXT TWO SLIDES WILL REALLY HIGHLIGHT A FEW OF OUR OPPORTUNITIES.

THERE ARE MANY, BUT WE'RE GOING TO HIGHLIGHT CAMP EPIC, WHICH IS FOR OUR RISING FIFTH AND EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS.

FIFTH THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS.

THE CAMP PROVIDES HANDS ON CAREER EXPERIENCES IN AREAS SUCH AS BATTLE BOTS, CAKE WARS, CODING, PROJECT RUNWAY.

THEY REALLY ENJOY THOSE COURSES.

OUR CULTURAL CAMP, ARTS CAMP IS FOR STUDENTS IN K-5 AND THAT FEATURES VISUAL ARTS, MUSIC, PE, WORLD LANGUAGE, EXPERIENCES, CAMP EPIC AND CULTURAL ARTS ARE VERY POPULAR AND OFTEN FILL UP QUICKLY.

YOU CAN FIND A FULL LIST OF OUR CAMP OPTIONS ON OUR CCPS WEBSITE UNDER SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS PAGE.

NOW WE HAVE A NEW CAMP AND IT'S THE WORLD LANGUAGE CAMP.

WE'RE OFFERING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME TO STUDENTS WHO ARE RISING SECOND TO FIFTH GRADE.

WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY TO FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD.

THEY WILL ROTATE THROUGH FOUR LANGUAGES FRENCH, SPANISH, GERMAN AND LATIN.

OUR BASKETBALL CAMP IS OPEN TO STUDENTS IN GRADES FIVE THROUGH EIGHT FOR 20 2425.

THE LAST CAMP THAT WE WILL HIGHLIGHT TODAY IS OUR HEALTH SCIENCE CAMP, WHICH IS HELD AT BRIGHT POINT, AND THIS IS BY INVITATION ONLY TO OUR RISING EIGHTH GRADERS AT FALLING CREEK AND MANCHESTER MIDDLE SCHOOLS' STUDENTS WILL BE ENGAGED IN MANY HEALTH-RELATED EXPERIENCES, AND YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THOSE EXPERIENCES THERE.

SO FINALLY, WE WANT TO CLOSE WITH EMPHASIZING THAT ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE IN LEARNING THIS SUMMER THROUGH THEIR ELECTRONIC BACKPACKS.

THE TERM. SO AS WE FLIP INTO THE FIRST SLIDE HERE, I WANT TO JUST REMIND THE BOARD THAT WE HAVE SEEN SEVERAL BUCKETS OF VARIOUS FORMS OF FEDERAL PANDEMIC RELIEF FUNDING, QUITE FRANKLY, SINCE SHORTLY AFTER THE PANDEMIC STARTED, WE'VE REALLY MADE AN EFFORT TO TARGET THOSE BUCKETS OF FUNDS INTO THE AREAS THEY WERE NEEDED.

IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE LIFE OF THE PANDEMIC, A LOT OF THOSE EARLY FUNDS ESPECIALLY, WENT TOWARDS REALLY ENSURING OUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS WERE SAFE.

AND A LOT OF FUNDS AS WE WENT THROUGH WERE DEDICATED TO THINGS LIKE HVAC AND PPE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

THAT FOCUS OF THESE VARIOUS GRANTS HAS SHIFTED PPE.

HVAC IS STILL IMPORTANT AND IS STILL PART, BUT IT'S GRADUALLY SHIFTED INTO THINGS LIKE ALLOWING FOR MULTIPLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS THROUGH VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND THEN INTO HOW DO WE ENSURE THAT WE ARE MAKING UP FOR LEARNING LOSS.

SO, IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE EXTENT OF THIS GRANT, THE SHIFT HAS BEEN THERE THROUGHOUT AS WE LOOK AT WHERE WE'RE AT NOW WE ARE IN THE LAST PHASE OF THIS PANDEMIC RELIEF FUNDING.

YOU CAN SEE CARES FUNDING, WHICH WE HAD ABOUT 19 MILLION OF WHICH ABOUT FIVE AND A HALF WAS AN ESSER BUCKET.

SEE A NUMBER OF OTHER ITEMS. THEIR CARES ACT CORONA RELIEF FUNDS WERE ABOUT 23 MILLION.

THE BULK OF THOSE WAS ESSER II, WHICH I'VE RECENTLY TALKED TO YOU ABOUT, THAT EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR.

AND WHERE WE'RE AT NOW IS PRIMARILY WITHIN THIS FUNDING IN THIS LAST BUCKET HERE WE REFER TO IT AS ARPA OR ARPA ACT, WHERE THERE WAS A TOTAL OF ABOUT 69 MILLION.

AS YOU CAN SEE, 51 OF THAT IS ESSER THREE.

THAT'S THE BULK OF THE FUNDS HERE WHERE WE'LL SPEND THE BULK OF OUR TIME.

BUT WE'LL ALSO HIT ON SOME OF THESE OTHER FUNDING SOURCES AS WE FLIP THROUGH.

SO, AS WE THINK ABOUT THOSE ESSER GRANTS, I MENTIONED THAT SEPTEMBER 30TH DATE LAST YEAR FOR ESSER II THE SAME DATE, SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2024, IS THE KEY DATE ON THIS SLIDE FOR ESSER III.

THAT'S WHEN WE MUST HAVE ALL OF OUR FUNDS ACCOUNTED FOR.

WE'RE WELL ON OUR WAY TO MEETING THAT NEED.

THE OTHER IMPORTANT NUMBER ON THIS PAGE IS THAT 20% AT THE BOTTOM, WHERE THE GUIDELINES ON THE ESSER THREE FUNDS REQUIRED US TO DEDICATE AT LEAST 20% OF THOSE FUNDS TO LEARNING LOSS.

WE ARE WELL NORTH OF THAT REQUIREMENT.

AND I'LL SHOW YOU THAT ON THE ON THE NEXT PAGE HERE.

SO, THAT'LL BE NICE.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS NOT PROVIDED CLEAR GUIDANCE ON WHAT LEARNING LOSS EXACTLY IS.

WE USE OUR DEFINITION, WHICH I THINK IS A REASONABLE ONE AT THAT, TO CATEGORIZE OUR EXPENSES INTO WHAT WOULD BE LEARNING LOSS, OBVIOUS THINGS LIKE TUTORING ET CETERA. YOU ADD IT ALL UP, WE ARE WELL NORTH.

ALMOST 66% OF OUR FUNDS CAN BE QUALIFIED AS LEARNING LOSS IN THE WAY WE'RE LOOKING AT HERE.

THE REMAINDER PRIMARILY IN FACILITIES.

YOU REMEMBER HVAC, THOSE TYPE OF THINGS AND TECHNOLOGY, CHROMEBOOKS, CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY MAKE UP THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE REMAINING FUNDS ON ESSER THREE.

SO, WHATEVER THE FINAL GUIDELINE IS FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO MEET THAT 20% THRESHOLD, WE FEEL WITH DEDICATING 66% OR SO TO LEARNING LOSS IN SOME FORM OR FUNCTION, WE'RE WELL NORTH OF THAT FEDERAL REQUIREMENT AND PRETTY HAPPY WITH HOW WE WERE ABLE TO TARGET OUR FUNDING FOR THIS PARTICULAR GRANT.

A LITTLE BIT OF A WORD STEW HERE, BUT A CHANCE TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THE EXCITING INITIATIVES THAT WE DID PURSUE USING THESE ESSER THREE FUNDS.

YOU CAN SEE TUTORING UP HERE A COUPLE TIMES, BOTH IN THE TUTORING LANGUAGE IN TERMS OF FACE TO FACE AS WELL AS ONLINE TUTORING WITH THINGS LIKE STRIDE YOU'LL SEE BONUSES FOR STAFF AS PART OF THIS.

WE WERE THE FIRST ONE IN THE STATE TO STAND UP THAT VIRTUAL ACADEMY, AND THAT'S STILL GOING STRONG.

BUT THAT FIRST YEAR OF FUNDING, WE WERE ABLE TO JUMP START THAT USING THESE ESSER THREE FUNDS AS WE GO FORWARD.

I'M NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE INITIATIVES, BUT THERE ARE A NUMBER OF THEM ON HERE AND YOU'LL SEE A LITTLE BIT MORE IN TERMS OF THE DOLLARS AND CENTS ON THE NEXT SEVERAL PAGES.

SO JUST LOOKING AT HOW WE'VE GENERALLY CATEGORIZED OUR FUNDING HERE.

AS OF MARCH 31ST, WE SPENT 71% OF OUR FUNDS OR CLOSE TO $37 MILLION.

THAT LEAVES ABOUT 14.5 YET TO SPEND AS OF MARCH 31ST.

I'LL GET INTO THAT STORY IN A LITTLE BIT, BUT BEFORE I DO, I WANT TO TALK YOU THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF HOW WE'VE CATEGORIZED THESE FUNDING AS WE'VE GONE THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING AND VIRTUAL ACADEMY. ONCE WE HAVE COMPARED THE CHANGES TO OUR CURRENT COURSES, WE DESIGNED THE REVISED COURSE CONTENT AND SEQUENCING IN RESPONSE TO THE CHANGES TO THE STANDARDS AND CONSIDER OUR STUDENTS AS PREVIOUS, CURRENT AND FUTURE LEARNING.

ONCE A COURSE IS SEQUENCED AND CONTENT IS FINALIZED, THE FINAL STEP IS TO REVIEW WHICH STANDARDS OF LEARNING ASSESSMENT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COURSE AS APPROPRIATE. TEAMS OF TEACHERS ARE LED BY THE CURRICULUM SPECIALIST TO CREATE INSTRUCTIONAL AND ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES AND RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN CANVAS AND ALIGNED TO OUR SEQUENCING, SO THAT TEACHERS HAVE THESE AVAILABLE FOR THEIR PLANNING PROCESSES AND IMPLEMENTATION.

AND THEN ONCE WE DESIGN THE COURSE CONTENT, TEACHERS INSTRUCT, SCAFFOLD, DIFFERENTIATE AND SUPPORT THE LEARNING NEEDS OF STUDENTS IN THEIR CARE.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, CURRICULUM SPECIALISTS REFLECT UPON AND REVIEW THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF OUR COURSE SEQUENCING TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR. AGAIN, THIS IS DONE IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR TEACHERS TO PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR OUR STUDENTS THROUGH DYNAMIC INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THEM.

UNDER VIRGINIA'S ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE EIGHT ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE THE ASSOCIATED VIRGINIA ASSESSMENT PROGRAM TESTS FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION IN THE CONTENT AS REQUIRED BY THE VIRGINIA BOARD OF EDUCATION.

IF STUDENTS IN K-8 EXPERIENCE AN ACCELERATED CURRICULUM, INCLUDING COURSES WITH COMPACTED CURRICULUM OR AGAIN ACCELERATED CURRICULUM, STUDENTS SIT FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE HIGHEST GRADE LEVEL IN WHICH ALL GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS HAVE BEEN TAUGHT.

CCPS DESIGNATES THE APPROPRIATE STANDARDS OF LEARNING ASSESSMENT, BASED ON THE CURRICULAR REVISIONS AND DECISIONS MADE TO ALIGN TO THE NEWEST STANDARDS OF LEARNING.

AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ADOPTED THE 2023 MATHEMATICS STANDARDS OF LEARNING FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION DURING THE 2425 SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS SLIDE IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW THE REVISIONS TO THE MATH STANDARDS OF LEARNING HAVE, QUOTE, RAISED ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS.

TO HIGHLIGHT THE SHIFT IN GRADE LEVEL REVISIONS TO THE 2023 MATH STANDARDS.

THIS CHART QUANTIFIES A FEW OF THE MANY ROBUST UPDATES.

THERE ARE SEVERAL IMPORTANT SHIFTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED AS PART OF THE 2023 REVISION.

FIRST, THE ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE EMBEDDED DIRECTLY INTO THE STANDARDS.

SECOND, THE DATA CYCLE HAS BEEN ADDED IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH ALGEBRA TWO FOR STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE INNOVATIVE WAYS TO PROCESS THEIR LEARNING THROUGH QUESTIONING, COLLECTING, ORGANIZING, AND CREATING DATA VISUALIZATIONS APPROPRIATE TO THE GRADE LEVEL.

THIRD, THE MATH PROCESS GOALS HAVE BEEN EMBEDDED INTO THE STANDARDS.

THE MATH PROCESS GOALS ARE SKILLS INVOLVING PROBLEM SOLVING, CONNECTIONS, COMMUNICATION, REPRESENTATION, AND REASONING.

IN THE FIRST COLUMN, YOU SEE THE APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF STANDARDS AND SUB STANDARDS FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL.

FOR THE 2023 MATH REVISIONS.

IN THE FINAL COLUMN, YOU SEE THAT GRADE FOUR HAS 18 NEW STANDARDS AND OR SUB STANDARDS THAT ARE PART OF THE 97 STANDARDS AND KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN THE GRADE LEVEL. NEW CONTENT OR CONTENT EXPECTATIONS COULD INCLUDE STANDARDS THAT DID NOT APPEAR IN 2016, STANDARDS THAT WERE MOVED FROM ANOTHER GRADE LEVEL, OR SKILLS THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A NEW EXPECTATION FOR THIS COURSE.

AS A RESULT OF THE SHIFTS AND NOTABLE REVISIONS, CCPS HAS UPDATED OUR CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT SEQUENCING TO ALIGN WITH THESE UPDATES.

WE'RE GOING TO SEE THREE EXAMPLES OF THIS IN ACTION.

SO, WHAT YOU SEE ON YOUR SCREEN RIGHT NOW IS AN EXAMPLE FROM GRADE FIVE MATH REGARDING AN INCREASE IN RIGOR.

NOTICE THE SHIFT IN THE VERBS FROM THE 2016 TO THE 2023 VERSION.

FOR FIFTH GRADE COMPUTATION AND ESTIMATION, THE 2016 STANDARD ASKS STUDENTS TO CREATE AND SOLVE, WHILE THE 2023 STANDARD ASKS STUDENTS TO ESTIMATE, REPRESENT, SOLVE, AND JUSTIFY SOLUTIONS.

THIS IS ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW THE EXPECTATIONS OF RIGOR HAVE INCREASED WITH THE INCLUSION OF THE PROCESS GOALS DIRECTLY IN THE STANDARD.

THIS SLIDE SHOWS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW THE 2023 VERSION OF MATH STANDARDS HAVE RAISED CONTENT EXPECTATIONS ACROSS GRADE LEVELS AS WELL.

FOR EXAMPLE, IN GRADE SIX MATH, YOU SEE THAT IN 2016, STUDENTS WERE ASKED TO MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE FRACTIONS AND MIXED NUMBERS.

IN 2023, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO NOT ONLY USE OPERATIONS WITH FRACTIONS AND MIXED NUMBERS, BUT THEY MUST ALSO UNDERSTAND THE EFFECT OF MULTIPLYING OR DIVIDING BY ONE OF THESE NUMBERS AND HOW IT CHANGES THE ORIGINAL ONE.

TO QUOTE, INVESTIGATE, AND EXPLAIN THE EFFECTS OF THIS, POTENTIALLY WITHOUT ACTUAL EXAMPLES GIVEN, IS LIKELY TO BE A COMPLICATED AND ABSTRACT CONCEPT FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND FINALLY, THIS SLIDE SHOWS TWO EXAMPLES OF HOW STANDARDS HAVE BEEN MOVED ACROSS GRADE LEVELS IN THE 2023 REVISIONS.

FOR EXAMPLE, THE STANDARD ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN HAS BEEN MOVED FROM GRADE SIX TO GRADE SEVEN.

STUDENTS ARE FIRST INTRODUCED TO THIS CONCEPT IN GRADE FIVE AND ENGAGE WITH THE STANDARD AGAIN IN GRADE SEVEN.

THE RIGOR HAS ALSO INCREASED BECAUSE STUDENTS WILL USE THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS WITH INTEGERS WITHOUT THE USE OF A CALCULATOR.

THE SECOND EXAMPLE SHOWS CONTENT THAT HAS BEEN MOVED DOWN FROM GRADE EIGHT TO GRADE SEVEN, AND IT IS A NEW CONTENT EXPECTATION FOR GRADE SEVEN FOR 2023. THE INCREASES IN RIGOR, CONTENT EXPECTATIONS, AND GRADE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS ARE ALL CONSIDERED AS PART OF SEQUENCING COURSE CONTENT.

AS WE'VE ALREADY DISCUSSED, STUDENTS TAKE THE ASSESSMENT ALIGNED TO THE CONTENT THAT THAT THEY HAVE FINISHED.

BASED ON THE 2023 MATH STANDARDS REVISION, SOME OF OUR COURSES WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THE SAME ASSESSMENT AS PREVIOUS YEARS.

FOR EXAMPLE, MATH FOUR A WILL CONTINUE TO ADMINISTER THE MATH FOUR SOL.

AND IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH ONE AND GRADE SIX WILL CONTINUE TO ADMINISTER THE MATH SIX SOL TEST AND OTHER COURSES.

A CHANGE IN THE ASSESSMENT IS NECESSARY DUE TO THE CHANGES IN CONTENT COVERED.

FOR EXAMPLE, MATH FIVE A WILL NOT FINISH TEACHING THE GRADE SIX STANDARDS.

THEREFORE, MATH FIVE A STUDENTS WILL SIT FOR THE MATH FIVE SOL TEST.

WHAT REMAINS CONSISTENT IS THAT OUR SINGLE ACCELERATED MATH STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE ALGEBRA ONE IN GRADE EIGHT, AND OUR DOUBLE ACCELERATED MATH STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE GEOMETRY IN GRADE EIGHT.

IN ORDER FOR THESE CHANGES TO OCCUR, CCPS HAS A COHORT OF STUDENTS THAT WILL NEED TO FOLLOW THEIR CURRENT COURSE SEQUENCE TO LEARN ALL CONTENT.

A FEW COURSES HAVE BEEN RENAMED TO ENSURE STUDENTS DO NOT MISS THIS CONTENT AND DO NOT REPEAT THE STANDARDS OF LEARNING ASSESSMENTS.
