THIS YEAR'S FOCUS WAS ON TEAMWORK AND JOB RESPONSIBILITY, AND 35 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WITH ALMOST 22,000 STUDENTS, ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE TO BUILD THE LONGEST CHAIN POSSIBLE. USING AN ONLY ONE PIECE OF CONSTRUCTION PAPER, TAPE, AND SCISSORS. NINTH WAY ENGINEERING STUDENTS LED THE WAY BY CREATING A SLIDESHOW IN VIDEO FOR TEACHERS TO SHOW THEIR STUDENTS, TO INTRODUCE INFORMATION ABOUT ENGINEERING GENERALLY, AND ABOUT THE CHALLENGE SPECIFICALLY. WITH THE HELP OF THE GOVERNOR'S ACADEMY PARENT ORGANIZATION ROCKET BOOSTERS, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS DELIVERED BOXES OF SUPPLIES WITH EVERYTHING EACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEEDED FOR THE CHALLENGE. STUDENT DIVERS AND THEIR FAMILIES, ATHLETIC DIRECTORS, COACHES AND CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF MEMBERS WORK TOGETHER TO ESTABLISH A DIVING PILOT PROGRAM. SEVEN STUDENTS JUMP AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIVE FOR THEIR SCHOOLS. KATIE BARON OF JAMES RIVER HIGH, ELIZABETH HAIR OF MANCHESTER HIGH, AINSLIE LANE AND JAMES LAVENDER OF MIDLOTHIAN HIGH, ISABEL CHANG AND KATIE ALONG AND EMILY STRICKLAND OF MONACAN HIGH. MANCHESTER HIGH TEACHER LINDA HAIR COORDINATE THE CCS PILOT PROGRAM FOR DIVING, WHILE ALSO SERVING ADVANTAGE FOR HIGH SWIM COACH. THIS YEAR IS DIVERSE TRAIN PRIVATELY IF RVA DIVE TEAM COACHES LED BY DIANE MAIS, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DIVERS, COACHES, AND EVERYONE HELPED CREATE THIS OPPORTUNITY. [APPLAUSE] >> FIRST OF ALL, I WANTED TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON YOUR INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT. I ALSO WANTED TO SHARE A LITTLE BACKGROUND ABOUT A YEAR-AND-A-HALF AGO, A COACH REACHED OUT TO ME FROM THE MIDLOTHIAN DISTRICT WHO IS ALSO A DIVE PARENT, AND ASKED IF WE COULD ADD DIVE TO OUR SWIM PROGRAM. AND I REACHED OUT TO CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF AND LEARNED THAT WE DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDING TO DO THAT. THAT'S HARD NEWS, AND WEALTHY COUNTY, WE THINK WE WOULD HAVE THE MONEY TO ADD A DIVE PROGRAM. I'M TRULY GRATEFUL TO PEOPLE AND STAFF WHO WERE VERY CREATIVE TO PUT A PILOT PROGRAM IN PLACE. IN A PILOT PROGRAM THAT DID NOT ADD ANY FUNDING THAT WAS NOT A LINE ITEM IN THE BUDGET SO IT ADDED NO NEW MONEY WAS NEEDED FOR THIS PROGRAM, BUT A PILOT PROGRAM THAT IS EXISTING BASICALLY WITHOUT FUNDS HAS TO END. MY UNDERSTANDING IS AFTER NEXT YEAR, WE HAVE TO MAKE THE DECISION TO MOVE TO A PROGRAM OR NOT. THIS BOARD WON'T DEAL WITH THAT BUT I'M SAYING THIS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE SCHOOLS THAT WE WANT FOR THE FUTURE OR THE FUNDING THAT WE NEED IN ORDER TO GIVE OUR STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT FRANKLY, THEY DESERVE. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM EVERYBODY HERE WHAT THIS PILOT PROGRAM MEANS TO YOU AND IF YOU THINK IT SHOULD MOVE FROM A PILOT TO A PROGRAM THAT IS FUNDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THEREFORE IS ACCESSIBLE TO MANY STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTY. THEN I THINK OUR STUDENTS ARE THE BEST ONE TO STUMP FOR WHAT OUR SCHOOLS NEED. HERE'S YOUR CHANCE SINCE IT'S BEING FILMED AND THIS WILL COME BEFORE THE NEXT BOARD. [00:10:03] IT IS AN ELECTION YEAR TO EVERYBODY OUT THERE, HOW ARE WE GOING TO FUND OUR SCHOOLS? ARE WE GOING TO HAVE MONEY FOR THE EXTRAS? WE HAVE RURAL SCHOOLS IN RURAL VIRGINIA THAT FUND DIVE PROGRAMS AND THE INTERESTING THING ABOUT A DIVE PROGRAM THAT I LEARNED IS THAT SWIM AND DIVE IS CONNECTED. WE'RE LEAVING POINTS ON THE TABLE SO OUR SWIMMERS HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE BECAUSE THEY WILL GET ZERO POINTS FOR DIVE SO IT'S HARDER FOR OUR KIDS TO WIN AT THE STATE LEVEL BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE DIVERS TO TAKE THE DIVE POINT. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT. GO AHEAD AND SELL WHY WE NEED A DIVE PROGRAM, NOT JUST THE PILOT. >> THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EVER DIVING AND I THOUGHT IS SO FUN. AT FIRST I WAS REALLY SCARED OF IT BUT I LOVE ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT I'VE MET THROUGH DIVING AND I REALLY HOPE THAT WE GET TO DO IT NEXT YEAR. >> DIVING IS REALLY FUN, I'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR FOUR YEARS NOW AND I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE IT IN THE SCHOOLS BECAUSE EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO DIVE AND KNOW HOW FUN IT IS. >> I'VE BEEN DIVING SINCE I WAS LITTLE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW LONG IT'S BEEN AT THIS POINT. BUT IT'S BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE AND I WOULD LOVE FOR THAT TO BE AVAILABLE FOR OTHER KIDS IN SCHOOL BECAUSE I TRULY DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS SUCH A UNIQUE AND GOOD EXPERIENCE THAT REALLY BUILDS CHARACTER, BUILDS CONNECTIONS LIKE I WOULD HAVE NEVER MET SO MANY OF MY TEAMMATES IF I HADN'T DONE DIVE AT SCHOOL THIS YEAR. >> AS THE DIVING COACH, I DEFINITELY BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE DIVING. WELL, DIVING, AS YOU SAID, IS AN EVENT IN SWIMMING. POINTS ARE LEFT ON THE DECK IF THEY DO NOT HAVE DIVERS. THE ONE THING THAT WAS WONDERFUL ABOUT THIS PILOT PROGRAM WAS THAT WE ALL TRAINED ALL THE CHILDREN FROM CHESTERFIELD IN ONE SPOT. THEY BECAME THEIR OWN DIVE TEAM OF CHESTERFIELD EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE GETTING POINTS FOR OTHER INDIVIDUALS FROM TEAMS. I THINK THAT'S A VERY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE WITH THE SPORT TO HAVE THEM ALL TOGETHER AND ENJOYING WATCHING ALL THIS SMACKS AND GETTING OVER AND HELPING EACH OTHER GET OVER THE FEAR OF DIVING. YES, TOTALLY AGREE. DIVING CAN BE SCARY, BUT IT'S A GREAT FOR ME I ESPECIALLY. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT HELPED ME GET THROUGH SO MANY THINGS IN LIFE BECAUSE IT GAVE ME THE ABILITY TO GET OVER SO MANY OTHER FEARS. ONE OF THEM IS PUBLIC SPEAKING. [LAUGHTER] BUT I DO APPRECIATE THE CHANCE THAT WE WERE GIVEN TO SHOW THAT WE CAN CREATE DIVERS FROM SOMEONE WHO'S NEVER EVEN TRIED BEFORE. THIS IS ALSO UNIQUE SPORT THAT IF YOU AREN'T ALREADY ON A TRAVEL TEAM, IF YOU AREN'T ALREADY SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN DIVING SINCE THE VERY YOUNG AGE AT YOUR SUMMER CLUB POOL. IT'S A SPORT IN HIGH SCHOOL THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY START AND ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISH AND DO VERSUS OTHERS THAT YOU HAVE TO ALREADY BECOME. YOU ALREADY HAVE TO COME IN AS THAT ATHLETE. >> FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY, THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO START DIVING FOR SEVEN YEARS SINCE WE STARTED SWIM. I ALWAYS HAD A BIG NO, BUT THANK YOU TO DOCTOR MURRAY AND A BUNCH OF OTHER FOLKS FOR LISTENING AND FOR GIVING IT A CHANCE THIS YEAR. I THINK WE'VE PROVEN THAT WE CAN CONTINUE THE PROGRAM. WE'VE GOT SOME PROPOSALS WRITTEN UP THAT WE ARE READY AND WAITING TO SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK. THERE'S A LOT OF NEW POOLS OPENING UP, SO WE'VE GOT SOME OPPORTUNITIES TO SPREAD OUT OUR SWIMMING AND TO REARRANGE OUR BUDGET SO THAT WE CAN MAKE IT WORK EVEN WITH WHAT WE HAVE NOW WITHOUT ASKING FOR A LOT MORE. IT'S DEFINITELY POSSIBLE AND I THINK WE'VE GOT A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD. WE'VE GOT THESE GIRLS AND THERE'S ONE BOY TO WHO WORKED REALLY HARD TRAINING WITH DIANE AND REALLY OUR TRAILBLAZERS. WE'VE GOT A LOT OF FOLKS THAT ARE INTERESTED THAT WOULD LOVE TO GIVE IT A TRY, JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE RESOURCES, THEIR FAMILY RESOURCES TO JOIN A PRIVATE CLUB TEAM AND GET THEIR RIDES AND DRIVE ALL OVER TO TIMBUKTU TO DIVE. I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE ANY CHILD THAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED IN DIVING IN THE FUTURE REGARDLESS OF THEIR RESOURCES, SO THEY CAN JUST BE A PART OF THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEAM. VIRGINIA NATURALLY SCHOOLS IS VIRGINIA'S OFFICIAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SCHOOL RECOGNITION PROGRAM DESIGNED TO REWARD EXEMPLARY EFFORTS BY SCHOOLS TO INCREASE STUDENTS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND STEWARDSHIP. THE PROGRAM ALSO SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION, CRITICAL THINKING, CREATIVE THINKING, AND CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY. AFTER A TWO-YEAR HIATUS, THE VIRGINIA NATURALLY SCHOOLS PROGRAM RECOGNIZED ALL 36 SCHOOLS FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN '21, '22. SPRING RUN ELEMENTARY WAS ONE OF 17 SCHOOLS HONORED FOR THE FIRST TIME. SPRING RUN'S EFFORTS LED TO THIS AWARD INCLUDED CREATING AN OUTDOOR LEARNING CLASSROOM SPACE AND INITIATIVES ABOUT GARDENING EARTH DAY IN THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO BOLSTER OUR ARTS IN THE SCHOOLS. WE FELT LIKE THEY TOOK A PARTICULAR HIT DURING COVID IN TERMS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SING OR PERFORM OR PLAY SOME OF THEIR INSTRUMENTS, AND COMBINE THAT WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO PHYSICALLY GET OUR PARENTS BACK IN THE BUILDINGS. SOME OF THEM HAD REALLY NOT EVEN SEEN WHERE THEIR KIDS WERE GOING TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. [00:25:01] WE DID A NIGHT OF ART PROGRAMMING THAT FEATURED OUR CHOIRS AND OUR BANDS, AND ALSO HAD A VISUAL ARTS PRESENTATIONS AND OUR DRAMA DEPARTMENT DID A SNIPPET OF THEIR PLAY AND ACTUALLY CHARTERED AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF MUSIC TO CELEBRATE THE SCHOOLS 50TH BIRTHDAY, THAT WAS A JOINT PERFORMANCE BETWEEN THE CHOIR AND THE BAND AND THE ORCHESTRA. THAT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS, WE GOT TO CELEBRATE A LITTLE BIT OF OUR BIRTHDAY, WHICH WE HADN'T GOTTEN TO DO MUCH DURING COVID AND WE HAD HUNDREDS OF PARENTS IN THE BUILDING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 18 MONTHS AND WAS REALLY A GREAT WAY TO END THE YEAR ON A POSITIVE NOTE AND BRING EVERYBODY TOGETHER. >> I AM TONI KILPATRICK, I AM THE ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL AT ROBIOUS MIDDLE. THERE WAS NO PUBLIC DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS ACTION AS SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES WHOSE CHILDREN WERE IN THESE PROGRAMS DID NOT RECEIVE PRIOR NOTIFICATION. ACCORDING TO THE MEMO, THE ONLY SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMS THAT WOULD REMAIN IN CCPS WERE THE AUTISM DAY PROGRAM, THE INTENSIVE DAY PROGRAM, AND THE MULTIPLE DISABILITY PROGRAM. THE PROGRAMS BEING RECLASSIFIED WERE THE ONES THAT THEY HAPPENED TO BE THE MOST PREVALENT IN THE COUNTY. THE SOL AND ASOS AUTISM CATCHMENT PROGRAMS AND THE MILD-TO-MODERATE ID CATCHMENT PROGRAMS. MANY STUDENTS WERE PLACED IN ONE OF THESE FORMER PROGRAMS, PRECISELY BECAUSE THEIR IEP TEAM FOUND THAT THEY WERE REQUIRED A HIGHLY STRUCTURED PROGRAM, SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION IN ACADEMICS, COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT, AND OR SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT. SEVERAL OF THE MIDLOTHIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL SOL AUTISM PROGRAM STUDENTS SPOKE TO THE FORMER SCHOOL BOARD AND SUPPORTED THE EXPANSION, INCLUDING MY SON. THAT BOARD LISTENED TO THE PARENTS AND STUDENTS AND APPROVE THE EXPANSION OF THAT PROGRAM TO TO HIGH SCHOOLS, MIDLOTHIAN AND THOMAS DALE. OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS, THE PROGRAM EXPANDED FURTHER TO INCLUDE THREE MORE HIGH SCHOOLS, MANCHESTER, MEADOWBROOK, AND MANQUIN. I STARTED WONDERING HOW AND WHY IN A FEW SHORT YEARS, CCPS WENT FROM EXPANDING THESE PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY TO ELIMINATING THEM OR AS THE MEMO SAID, RECLASSIFYING THEM. LOOKING AT THE CCPS INSTRUCTION POLICY SECTION, THE PASSAGE FROM SUBSECTION SELECTION, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND STRATEGIES AND PROGRAMS CAUGHT MY EYE. WHERE AN INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM FAILS TO MEET EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT OR IS OTHERWISE DEEMED TO BE INSUFFICIENT, THE PRINCIPAL SHALL WORK WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT OR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S DESIGNEE TO INTERVENE. THE POLICY SAYS PRINCIPAL SHALL WORK WITH SUPERINTENDENT TO INTERVENE WHERE ANY OF THE OTHER RECOMMENDED INTERVENTIONS TRIED BEFORE JUMPING INTO THE NUCLEAR OPTION THAT OCCURRED WITH NO PUBLIC TRANSPARENCY. DID THE PRINCIPALS FROM THE MINI SCHOOLS, THESE PROGRAMS WERE LOCATED TELL THE SUPERINTENDENT THAT THE PROGRAMS WEREN'T WORKING AND REQUIRED AN INTERVENTION? RECOGNIZING MARCH 2023 AS YOUTH ART MONTH. WHEREAS ART EDUCATION CONTRIBUTES POWERFUL EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS TO ALL ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING. ART EDUCATION DEVELOPS CRITICAL AND CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS. ART EDUCATION TEACHERS DESIGN THINKING AND REINFORCES THE CONCEPT OF CRAFTSMANSHIP. ART EDUCATION TEACHERS SENSITIVITY TO BEAUTY, ORDER AND OTHER EXPRESSIVE QUALITIES. ART EDUCATION GIVES STUDENTS A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF CULTURES, VALUES, AND BELIEFS. [01:25:02] ART EDUCATION REINFORCES AND BRINGS TO LIFE WHAT STUDENTS LEARN IN OTHER SUBJECTS, AND ART EDUCATION USES STUDENT LEARNING IN ART PRODUCTION, ART HISTORY, ART CRITICISM, AND AESTHETICS TO CREATE NEW MEANING AND LEARNING FOR EACH STUDENT AND WHEREAS OUR NATIONAL LEADERS HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THE NECESSITY OF INCLUDING ART EXPERIENCES IN EACH STUDENT'S EDUCATION. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED MARCH AS YOUTH ART MONTH, ENDORSED THE OBSERVANCE OF YOUTH ART MONTH AND ENCOURAGED THE SUPPORT OF QUALITY SCHOOL ART PROGRAMS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH. I WISH I COULD SAY THAT I HAD ANY TALENT, BUT I'M IN DEEP ADMIRER OF THOSE WITH TALENT AND I'M DELIGHTED THAT WE HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO RECOGNIZE THIS. I THINK EARLIER IN THE EVENING IT'S SAVED. I HOPE I'M NOT GOING TO BLOW YOUR COVER MS. BAILEY. BUT MS. BAILEY AND I WERE BOTH DABBING OUR EYES DURING THAT PERFORMANCE. IT WAS VERY MOVING, IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF BEYOND THE TALENT, BUT JUST THE POWER OF PERFORMING ARTS AND VISUAL ARTS AND WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO THAT. >> MS. BAILEY. >> YES. I WAS CRYING UNABASHEDLY AND I GET EMOTIONAL WHEN I SEE THINGS THAT I LOVE AND HAVE A GREAT APPRECIATION FOR. THE MUSIC GROUP THAT PERFORMED JUST MOVED ME AND THAT'S WHAT ART DOES. IT MOVES YOU. IT MOVES YOU EMOTIONALLY. THE TWO ESSAYS THAT WERE READ AS WELL, OF COURSE, THE LITTLE CHILD THAT YOU CAN JUST PUT IN YOUR PERSON TAKE HOME WAS ADORABLE BUT THEN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLER, IF YOU'VE REALLY HEARD THOSE WORDS, I WROTE IT DOWN. SHE WROTE, IN ART, MISTAKES DON'T EXIST. THAT'S A MOVING STATEMENT. FOR A MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILD TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT IS JUST PROFOUND AND IT TELLS YOU THE IMPACT THAT ART HAS IN ALL ITS FORMS ON PEOPLE. NOT ONLY THOSE THAT ARE CREATING IT, BUT IT MOVES THOSE OF US THAT ARE WITNESSING IT AS IT DID WITH ME TONIGHT. ABSOLUTELY, THIS IS A TREMENDOUS RESOLUTION AND THIS IT GIVES ME HOPE FOR THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC SCHOOL. WHAT WE WITNESSED TONIGHT ARE PRODUCTS OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD GOING ON OUT THERE AND PEOPLE JUST NEED TO GO TO YOUR ART EXPOS AND ALL OF THE PERFORMANCES AND THE COMPETITIONS AND YOU'LL LEAVE FEELING JUST WARM INSIDE AND GOOD ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. [LAUGHTER] JUST FOR THE BOARD'S INFORMATION, WE'VE BEEN VISITING EACH SCHOOL, TALKING WITH THESE PRINCIPAL, HAVING GREAT CONVERSATIONS SEEING SOME OF THE AMAZING THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON ON OUR SCHOOLS. NOT THAT ANYBODY'S COUNTY, BUT I THINK WE'RE DONE THE 51 DAYS OF SCHOOL. BUT THIS IS A REALLY PRESSURE TIME FOR EVERYONE BECAUSE THEY ARE PREPARING FOR SOLS. BUT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT HIGH SCHOOLS TRYING TO GET THE AP EXAMS FINISHED TO DO ENROLLMENT COURSES FINISHED, AND GETTING THEM ACROSS THE STAGE. SOME OF YOU HAVE SENIORS. WE'RE TRYING TO GET THEM, THERE TRYING TO PULL THEM TO THE FINISH LINE. WE DID A VIDEO FOR ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS, JUST REMINDING OUR ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO FINISH THE YEAR STRONG. FOR 5TH GRADERS, 8TH GRADERS, AND SENIORS TO LEAVE A STRONG LEGACY FOR SUCCESS. WE WILL BE RECOGNIZING THE MONACAN GIRLS NEXT MONTH BUT CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MONACAN GIRLS SWIM TEAM FOR ANOTHER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. I THINK THEY JUST EARN THE MEDALS NOW. >> YES. THEY'RE JUST RUNNING IT. >> THEY'RE JUST RUNNING IT. EXCITING. WE HAVE ANOTHER TEACHER OF PROMISES TO COME, IN MARCH. AGAIN, THE 25TH AND 26TH THIS MONTH, PLEASE GO OUT TO THOMAS DALE TO SEE THE UNBELIEVABLE SECONDARY ART PERFORMANCES AND PROJECTS OF THE FINE ARTS FESTIVAL. WE'VE RUN TWO ALL COUNTY AWARD PROGRAMS RECOGNIZING OVER 200 STUDENTS. REALLY REPORTING THE STUDENTS WITH THE HONORABLE MENTIONS. WE HAVE ANOTHER ONE COMING UP IN APRIL FOR ACADEMICS AND ACTIVITIES AND THEN ONE IN MAY. PEOPLE HAVE ASKED US, WHY DO WE DO THIS? WE BELIEVE WE HAVE UNBELIEVABLE STUDENTS, EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS, TALENTED STUDENTS, ATHLETIC STUDENTS THAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN THE STATE. WE WANTED TO RECOGNIZE OUR STUDENTS, CHESTERFIELD COUNTY STUDENTS. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE ALL COUNTY AWARDS. PARENTS HAVE COME OUT, STUDENTS HAVE COME OUT. IT'S BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL THE FIRST TWO. BUT I WOULD LOVE TO RECOGNIZE THEM EVERY MONTH. I THINK MY STAFF WOULD PROBABLY SHOOT ME IF WE DID THAT. BUT WE ARE RECOGNIZING HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS FOR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR WHAT THEY'RE DOING. AND WE WERE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. THEN WE HAVE OUR CCPS HALL OF FAME COMING UP AT THE END OF THE MONTH, RECOGNIZING EDUCATORS WHO HAVE SERVED AS THIS COUNTY FAITHFULLY AND HELPED OUR STUDENTS BECOME SUCCESSFUL. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE MATERIAL AND THE RESOURCES THAT ARE REQUIRED TO ALLOW THOSE TYPES OF PROGRAMS TO FLOURISH LIKE THEY DO. PLEASE COME OUT TO THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS.
