THE CENTRAL LEVEL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM MEETS REGULARLY WITH SCHOOL LEVEL IMPROVEMENT TEAMS TO REVIEW THEIR PROGRESS ON THE GOALS THAT THEY HAVE SET IN THEIR CIP PLANS. OUR CONTENT SPECIALISTS PROVIDE TARGETED FEEDBACK AND SUPPORT AS APPROPRIATE. LOOKING AT OUR ACCREDITATION STATUS, THE RESULTS THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THE VDOE ARE PRELIMINARY. THIS NEW TESTING WOULD BE PHASED IN AS FOLLOWS THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR IN 2021-22, THERE WAS A FALL AND SPRING ASSESSMENT BASED ON GRADE LEVEL THE FALL ASSESSMENT TESTED THE PREVIOUS GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, AND IN THE SPRING, STUDENTS TOOK THE TRADITIONAL ESOL ASSESSMENT GROWTH AND THE NEW GROWTH THROUGH YEAR AND GROWTH ASSESSMENTS ARE FOCUSED ON INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GROWTH. THE FALL AND WINTER GROWTH ASSESSMENTS WILL FOCUS PRIMARILY ON THE CONTENT FROM THE STUDENT'S CURRENT GRADE LEVEL. HOWEVER, IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE 2021 LEGISLATION, THE CAT ALGORITHM HAS CONFIGURED SO THAT STUDENTS MIGHT BE ADMINISTERED SOME ITEMS FROM BELOW GRADE THEIR CURRENT GRADE LEVEL. WE FOUND THAT ACROSS THE STATE OUR SCIENCE SCORES WERE LOWER. THERE HAVE BEEN A DECLINE ACROSS THE BOARD. AND I SAW READING TEST SCORES FOR GRADES THREE THROUGH THREE SEVEN IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. OUR WRITING SCORES IMPACTED OUR READING SCORES. AND IN MATH, THE LOWEST PASS RATES WERE IN GRADES FOUR THROUGH SIX. AND AGAIN, THIS IS STILL PRELIMINARY DATA. OUR CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM FOR THE VDOE THEY ADOPTED SPECIAL PROVISIONS TO REMOVE THE CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM INDICATOR FROM THE DETERMINATION OF SCHOOL AND ACCREDITATION FOR SOMETHING THAT WE'RE ALL REALLY PROUD OF IS GRADUATION. AND THAT'S OUR GOAL, IS TO GET STUDENTS ACROSS THE STAGE. SO EACH OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE TEAMS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB RECOGNIZING OUR 2022 GRADUATES. THE CREDENTIALS OUR STUDENTS EARNED INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO AUTOCAD SECURITY PLUS NET PLUS SERVE SAFE NURSE AIDE, DENTAL VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTOR, COSMETOLOGY, BARBERING, LICENSE, EMT AND MANY OTHERS. IN ADDITION TO EARNING CAREER CREDENTIALS, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPLETED 11,143 WORK BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES DURING THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR. OUR BUSINESS PARTNER COMMUNITY SUPPORTED THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HOURS, HELPING THEM EXPLORE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND GETTING A FIRST HAND LOOK COSMETOLOGIST, BANK PRESIDENT, ACCOUNTANT, LAWMAKER AND DENTIST. WE ALSO OFFERED EXTENDED DAY CAMPS TO OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED TITLE ONE SITES. RECOVERY OF LEARNING, WHICH WAS OUR IN-PERSON SUMMER PROGRAM. THERE WERE 7778 STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED. SO THAT'S PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. AND I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT THAT ADVANCED DIPLOMA, THIS RESEARCH APPLIES NOT JUST A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE BECAUSE FOUR YEAR COLLEGE IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. IT ALSO APPLIES TO TWO YEAR COLLEGES. WHY DOES THIS MATTER? BECAUSE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ABOUT 65% OF JOBS WILL REQUIRE SOME POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION IN THE FUTURE. SO THAT'S JUST HOW IMPORTANT THE ADVANCED DIPLOMA IS. SO WHEN I LOOK AT THE FACT THAT ONLY 5050 8% OF STUDENTS IN CHESTERFIELD HAVE RECEIVED THE ADVANCED DIPLOMA, AND I UPDATE, THE BOARD WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACCESS TO ADVANCED DIPLOMA, WHILE IT'S 58%, IT DOES RANGE SO I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT THAT IT'S DIFFERENT. SCHOOLS HAVE DIFFERENT PERCENTAGES. IF YOU LOOK AT THE STATE VIRGINIA SCHOOL QUALITY WEBSITE, FAIRFAX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS REPORTS THAT 64% SO VERY CLOSE TO THAT 65% NEEDING ACCESS TO TO AN ADVANCED DIPLOMA. AND WHY AM I POINTING THIS OUT? BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO TAKE A GREATER INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION AND CHESTERFIELD IN ORDER TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN 33% AND SO REALLY, THIS IS A PLEA TO OUR COUNTY TO DO MORE FOR HIGH SCHOOLS AND NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET. SO IT'S I REALIZE DR. NOT OUT OF OUR CONTROL. IT'S OUT OF OUR CONTROL. BUT ONE OTHER THING THAT I JUST WANTED TO REALLY BRIEFLY TOUCH ON TONIGHT, AND I HEARD IT FROM SOMEONE WHO WHO CAME IN HERE TO SPEAK ON SOMETHING. [01:55:04] BUT I FULLY SUPPORT CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION. I FULLY SUPPORT IT. AND I'M GOING TO TELL YOU WHY. CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION HAS FOR THE LONGEST TIME AND I COULD JUST SPEAK TO WHEN I CAME THROUGH SCHOOL IN THE NINETIES AND I'M GOING TO BE HONEST, I'M A PRODUCT COLLEGE. AND THIS WAS A PUSH THAT WE DID FOR ALL STUDENTS AT THAT TIME FRAME AND WE VEERED AWAY FROM CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION. WE ARE NOW AT A PIVOTAL POINT IN SOCIETY WHERE WE ARE MISSING KEY PEOPLE ELECTRICIANS, PLUMBERS, PEOPLE TO WORK ON VEHICLES, PEOPLE TO DESIGN THERE IS A WHOLE HOST OF THINGS IN SOCIETY OF GAPS THAT WE HAVE. AND THE REALITY IS OUR JOB IS TO PREPARE STUDENTS TO GO OUT AND BE A MEANINGFUL, TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL LIVING FOR THEMSELVES, FOR THEIR FAMILY AND A AND THOSE JOBS THAT ARE AVAILABLE, IT IS OUR JOB AND OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BRING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THEM TO SEE IF THAT IS SOMETHING THAT THEY WANT TO GO INTO. WE WOULD WE WOULD BE FAILING OUR KIDS IF WE WEREN'T DOING THAT, IF WE JUST SAID, YOU'RE GOING TO COLLEGE. WHEN I WENT THROUGH SCHOOL, IF I WAS ONE OF THE KIDS CAST ASIDE, MY GRADES WEREN'T GREAT ENOUGH TO GO TO COLLEGE. SO MY CHOICE WAS RATHER GO RIGHT TO WORK OR GO TO THE MILITARY. I CHOSE TO GO TO THE MILITARY. IT WAS THE BEST CHOICE IN MY LIFE. I GOT TO SERVE ALMOST ON EVERY CONTINENT, ALL THE WAY FROM FROM CALIFORNIA TO KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN. AND IT OPENED MY EYES. I WAS ABLE TO SEE A LOT, BUT IT ALSO, WHEN I WAS FINISHED WITH THE MILITARY, I FOUND MYSELF LOOKING FOR A NEW CAREER. AND I BECAME A TEACHER AND I WENT THROUGH THE CAREER SWITCHER PROGRAM. AND THEN I'M OBVIOUSLY SIT IN FRONT OF YOU TODAY BECAUSE I DECIDED THAT IT WAS THAT IMPORTANT THAT I WANTED TO RUN FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD AND I GOT TO SIT ON A COMMITTEE CAREER I GOT TO SEE FIRSTHAND STUDENTS WHO ACTUALLY GET TO GO TO SCHOOL AND DO WHAT THEY LOVE TO DO, AND THEY COME TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY AND THOSE STUDENTS LEAVE SCHOOL AND HAVE MEANINGFUL PATHWAYS, SO THEY AT LEAST UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WANT TO DO OR AT LEAST WHAT THEY WANT TO TRY. SO I DON'T BELIEVE THAT WE ARE STEERING ANYBODY TOWARDS AN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION OR ANYTHING ELSE. I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE PREPARING STUDENTS TO HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE AND TO OPEN THE RISE, THAT THERE ARE MANY JOBS OUT THERE THAT NEED TO BE FILLED IN SOCIETY AND IT IS UP TO YOU IT'S OUR JOB TO SHOW YOU THOSE PATHS.
