GOOD AFTERNOON. I'D LIKE TO CALL THE NOVEMBER 9TH, 2021 SCHOOL BOARD WORK SESSION TO

ORDER. FIRST, WE HAVE AN UPDATE ON JOB EVENTS AND BUS DRIVER CANDIDATES FROM DR.

HUFF AND MR. DAVIS. GOOD AFTERNOON NOVEMBER HAS BEEN AN UNUSUALLY BUSY MONTH FOR JOB EVENTS.

LAST WEEK, ON NOVEMBER 2ND, WE HAD A STUDENT TEACHER HIRING EVENT.

WE HAVE THIRTY EIGHT STUDENT TEACHERS WORKING WITH US IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS THIS FALL FROM A VARIETY OF UNIVERSITIES.

AND WE'RE HAPPY TO REPORT THAT AS OF THIS MORNING, WE HAD HIRED FORTY FOUR POINT SEVEN PERCENT OF THAT. SEVENTEEN ARE ALREADY UNDER CONTRACT FOR JANUARY 3RD.

ONCE THEY FINISH THEIR DEGREE, WE DO HAVE SOME STUDENT TEACHERS WHO STILL HAVE SOME COURSEWORK TO TAKE NEXT SEMESTER, AND WE'RE HOPING TO OFFER THEM AN EARLY CONTRACT FOR NEXT YEAR. THE EVENT WAS REALLY SUCCESSFUL.

WE AND WE DID ACTUALLY A LOT OF HIRES IN THE LAST WEEK.

WE HAD SECOND YEAR TEACHER SPEAK TO OUR STUDENT TEACHERS ABOUT WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF PRINCIPALS COME AND DO A Q&A WITH US.

WE HAD A PHOTO GROUP PHOTO OF THE FOLKS WHO CAME THERE WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT, AND WE WE'RE ABLE TO ANSWER A LOT OF QUESTIONS.

SOME PEOPLE WANTED TO SUB NEXT SEMESTER WHILE THEY'RE FINISHING OUT THEIR CLASSES.

THEY WERE ABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT BENEFITS.

I THINK THE EARLIER HIRING PROCESS IS A SHIFT FOR STUDENT TEACHERS AS WELL.

THEY'VE HEARD FROM OLDER SIBLINGS OR FRIENDS KIND OF WAIT UNTIL YOU FINISH YOUR FIRST TEACHER PLACEMENT AND THEN YOU APPLY.

AND IT'S NOT THAT WAY ANYMORE BECAUSE YOU CAN GET A CONTRACT EARLIER DUE TO THE SHORTAGES.

SO PART OF IT IS JUST KIND OF LETTING PEOPLE KNOW IT'S OK TO GO AHEAD AND APPLY NOW, EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T HAVE THAT DEGREE ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT QUITE YET.

WE ALSO HAVE TODAY, AS WE SPEAK, GOING ON A DAY [INAUDIBLE] OPEN HOUSE AT [INAUDIBLE] LIBRARY, AND I SAW THE WAY THE NEWS MEDIA OUTLETS HAD COVERED THAT THIS MORNING.

WE DID SOME ADVERTISING FOR THAT.

WE'RE DOING A LOT OF ASSISTANCE WITH APPLYING, YOU KNOW, DOING THE APPLICATION PROCESS ONLINE, INTERVIEWING, DOING FINGERPRINTS ON THE SPOT AND HOPE TO HIRE SOME [INAUDIBLE] TODAY. WE ALSO HAVE A COMMUNITY EVENT AT CHESTER LIBRARY WERE INVITED TO SO SOME OF OUR STAFF IS THERE RECRUITING FOR ALL POSITIONS.

AND NEXT UP, WE ARE PLANNING FOR THREE TEACHER FAIRS.

WE ARE GOING TO DO CONDITIONS PERMITTING HYBRID THIS YEAR TWO IN-PERSON FAIRS, AND ONE VIRTUAL FAIR BECAUSE WE LEARN THAT EACH HAD SOME ADVANTAGES.

SO WE'RE HOPING TO CAPTURE THE WIDEST ARRAY OF CANDIDATES BY HAVING BOTH IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL TEACHER FAIRS, COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FAIRS.

WE NEED TO PLAN OUR SCHEDULE FOR THOSE THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT LATE THIS YEAR AND PUTTING OUT THEIR DATES. I THINK BECAUSE THEY'VE HAD TO HAVE A COUPLE OF YEARS OF VIRTUAL AND CANCELATIONS, THEY'RE NOT QUITE CERTAIN.

BUT WE'RE WATCHING THE WEBSITES FOR THOSE AND PLAN TO ATTEND ALL THE REGIONAL EVENTS THAT WE CAN. AND WE HIRED 19 SUBS LAST WEEK AND TWO CONVERTED TO FULL TIME JOBS, AND WE ONLY HAD ONE RESIGNATION, SO HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK WITH THE EVENT WE'LL BE EVEN HIGHER. AND THEN WE HAVE A BUS DRIVER CANDIDATE UPDATE.

WE'VE HAD A NUMBER OF MULTI DEPARTMENTAL EFFORTS RELATED TO BUS DRIVERS.

WE HAD OUR THIRD JOB FAIR SEPTEMBER 30TH.

WE HAD ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO ATTENDEES, SO IT WAS OUR BIGGEST ONE BY FAR.

AND CERTAINLY THE SALARY, BONUSES AND MEDIA COVERAGE CAME TOGETHER FOR US THERE AND WE HAD A LOT OF PARTICIPATION.

WE HAD EIGHTY FOUR ON THE SPOT OFFERS.

THAT MEANS FOLKS SAID WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO CHECK THEIR DMV AND EVERYTHING THEY HAD IN STATE DMV AND HAD ENOUGH INFORMATION THAT WE WERE ABLE TO GO AHEAD AND MAKE AN OFFER RIGHT THERE. THIS MONTH WE HAVE OUR WATER BILL ADS RUNNING.

SO IF YOU GET A PAPER WATER BILL, THERE IS A FLIER IN THERE AND I THINK THERE'S A MESSAGE TO THE ONLINE ONE AS WELL.

AND THOSE ARE ON OCTOBER 8TH THROUGH NOVEMBER 26TH WITH THE BILLING CYCLE, AND WE WORKED WITH THE COUNTY TO PURCHASE THAT AND GET THOSE IN THE WATER BILLS.

WE'RE FINDING THAT WITH THIS CANDIDATE GROUP, WE NEED TO USE SOME DIFFERENT STRATEGIES THAN WE USE WITH TEACHERS.

AND SO RADIO HAS BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE FOR US THAT IT COMES NOW WITH STREAMING AND SOCIAL MEDIA STREAMS WITH THE RADIO AND THEN PRINT ADVERTISING HAS BEEN MORE EFFECTIVE WITH THIS

CANDIDATE GROUP. NOW OUR STORY ABOUT OUR BUS DRIVER, MIKE MASON AND THE COMMUNICATIONS INITIALLY PUT TOGETHER A COUPLE OF FEATURES OF DIFFERENT BUS DRIVERS AND THAT WAS PICKED UP, AND THAT'S NOW EXPANDED TO A NUMBER OF NATIONAL MEDIA OUTLETS AND BOTH WASHINGTON POST CBS.

I BELIEVE ABC HAS SOMETHING I THINK CNN CALLED RECENTLY, SO LOTS OF MEDIA OUTLETS FEATURING THAT, AND THAT WAS JUST GREAT NEWS.

AND WHAT A POSITIVE REPRESENTATION OF CCPS AND CHESTERFIELD COMMUNITY, THE COUNTY FAIR OF COURSE. WE PARTICIPATED WITH OUR TRANSPORTATION COLLEAGUES AND FOOD SERVICE AND RECRUITED BUS DRIVERS AND FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEES THERE.

WE ARE BOOSTING OUR TRANSPORTATION JOB ON INDEED.

AND AGAIN, THE RADIO ADVERTISING HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE FOR US WITH THE BUS DRIVER CANDIDATE POOL. OUR DATA ON OUR CANDIDATES OUR UPDATES AND THIS HAS CHANGED SLIGHTLY BECAUSE THIS DATA IS AS OF NOVEMBER 3RD.

SO SIX HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ONE APPLICATIONS AND NOW WE HAVE SIX EIGHTY FOUR AND THEN THE LAST SEVEN DAYS WE HAVE RECEIVED THIRTEEN NOW WE HAVE DONE FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR INTERVIEWS. SO WE KIND OF DID SOME OF THOSE INTERVIEWS.

WE KNOW THE TRAINING DEPARTMENT WAS ON THE ROAD, SO REALLY APPRECIATE OUR HR STAFF PITCHING AND WITH THAT, PEOPLE [INAUDIBLE] AND SUBSTITUTES TO INTERVIEW CANDIDATES.

WE HAVE ONE DMV RECORD PENDING.

WE HAVE SEVEN INTERVIEWS WHERE WE'VE CONTACTED THE PERSON.

WE'RE WAITING FOR THEM TO GET BACK WITH US, WITH AN APPROPRIATE TIME TO INTERVIEW THAT.

AND WE HAVE EIGHT WHO HAVE ACCEPTED OFFERS BUT ARE IN THE FINGERPRINTING STAGE.

EITHER WE'RE WAITING FOR THE PRINTS TO COME BACK OR THEY'RE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT AND WE HAVE NINETY EIGHT WHO ARE WITH THE MEDICAL CENTER, WHO ARE GETTING THEIR PHYSICAL DRUG SCREEN AND [INAUDIBLE] TAX.

AND THAT'S BEEN A NICE ENHANCEMENT OR IMPROVEMENT TO THE PROCESS TO BE ABLE TO CONSOLIDATE THIS.

AND IT'S ONE TRIP FOR THE CANDIDATE AND WE HAVE SENT TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY SEVEN TO TRAINING WHO HAVE CLEARED ALL OF THOSE STEPS SINCE AUGUST 30TH.

SO IT MIGHT SEEM LIKE WOW, SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR.

THAT'S A BIG NUMBER.

IN RECRUITING, WE TALK ABOUT A FUNNEL INSTEAD OF A PIPELINE, AND YOU NEED A LOT OF PEOPLE AT THE TOP OF THE FUNNEL, ESPECIALLY FOR POSITIONS THAT HAVE A LOT OF STEPS.

SO WE FIND THAT ABOUT THIRTY PERCENT DON'T GO FROM THE INTERVIEW TO THE FINGERPRINTING THEY DROP OUT AT THAT STAGE, THEY DON'T COME IN OR MAKE THEIR APPOINTMENT.

WE DO A NUMBER OF FOLLOW UP CALLS AND EMAILS, BUT ABOUT THIRTY PERCENT WE LOSE OFF THE FRONT END. BUT THOSE WHO DO COME IN AND FINGERPRINT ABOUT SIXTY TO SIXTY FIVE PERCENT OF THOSE WILL CLEAR RIGHT AWAY WITHIN ONE BUSINESS DAY AND CAN MOVE RIGHT ON TO THE NEXT STEP. BUT SOME FOLKS HAVE SOME RECORDS PROCESSING AND WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE STATE POLICE CENSUS RECORDS BACK.

THAT FBI CHECK IS PART OF STATE LAW, AND THAT'S GOING TO THE STATE POLICE, THE FBI AND BACK CHECKING ALL THE STATES, AND SOMETIMES THAT'S A DELAY FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS.

IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE A DISQUALIFYING REASON.

IN FACT, ABOUT EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT OF THE CANDIDATE POOL WHOSE FINGERPRINT PASSES ON TO THE NEXT STEP. BUT YOU CAN KIND OF SEE WHERE AT EACH STAGE, SOME CANDIDATES KIND OF FALL OUT OF THE PROCESS.

WE LEARNED BY DOING A REALLY LARGE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES FROM MEDICAL CENTER.

ABOUT SIXTEEN PERCENT OF OUR CANDIDATES NEED SLEEP STUDIES, SO THAT'S A DELAY BECAUSE THAT'S AN ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENT FOR THEM.

AND REALLY, IN THE END, MOST PEOPLE DO PASS THE PHYSICAL.

WE HAVE A REALLY SMALL NUMBER WHO DON'T EVENTUALLY PASS, BUT SOMETIMES THEY HAVE TO CONTACT THEIR PHYSICIAN OR NEED ADDITIONAL STUDY.

SO WE NEED THAT BIG NUMBER AT THE BEGINNING TO GET TO A NUMBER OF BUS DRIVERS THAT WE NEED. AND WE DO HAVE ABOUT FIFTEEN CANDIDATES WITH FUTURE START DATES.

SO WE OFFER THE CANDIDATE A POSITION.

SOMETIMES THEY ARE GIVING NOTICE OF THEIR CURRENT EMPLOYER OR THEY WANT TO IF IT'S LIKE LATE IN THE WEEK WHEN THEIR PHYSICAL CLEARS, THEY MAY WANT TO WAIT BECAUSE THEY NEED EIGHT HOURS OF STUDY BEFORE THEY START THE TRAINING.

AND SO SOME PEOPLE WILL SAY, WELL, I PREFER TO START A WEEK FROM MONDAY, TWO WEEKS FROM MONDAY. SO EVERY MONDAY A COHORT STARTS AND WE HAVE PEOPLE QUEUED UP TO START IN THE FUTURE, AND I'LL TURN MY COLLEAGUE HERE TO UPDATE YOU ON THE ACTUAL TRAINING PROCESS.

HUFF REFERRED TO THE COHORTS THAT HAVE STARTED EVERY WEEK.

THESE LAST SIX WEEKS, INCLUDING YESTERDAY, HAVE ALL BEEN SUBSTANTIAL GROUPS.

A TOTAL OF A HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR CANDIDATES THAT HAVE COME TO US, SO WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT THEIR PROGRESS.

ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN OF THEM HAVE COMPLETED CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND KEEP IN MIND THAT A COHORT JUST STARTED YESTERDAY, SO THEY HAVE TO COMPLETE THAT INSTRUCTION STILL TOO . OF THOSE THAT HAVE COMPLETED.

WE'VE GOT SIXTY SEVEN THAT HAVE COVERED THAT MOST DIFFICULT HURDLE OF EARNING THE COMMERCIAL LEARNER'S PERMIT, WHICH INCLUDES THE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE EXAM AND THEN ENDORSEMENTS FOR THE SCHOOL BUS FOR PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION AND AIR BRAKES.

WE HAVE SEEN ONCE THEY GET TO THE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND FINISH THAT THEY'RE VERY CAPABLE AND USUALLY GET THE OTHER THREE ENDORSEMENTS.

SO SIXTY SEVEN OF THEM ARE AGAIN WITH THE CLP AND ELIGIBLE FOR BEHIND THE WHEEL TRAINING.

ANOTHER TWENTY FOUR ALREADY HAVE A CDL, EITHER A CLASS A FROM DRIVING, LET'S SAY, A LARGER TRUCK OR A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUCK, OR THE CLASS B, WHICH IS GENERALLY A BUS TRANSPORTATION, NOT NECESSARILY A SCHOOL BUS, BUT GENERALLY BUS TRANSPORTATION.

AND THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE THAT MOVE THE MOST QUICKLY.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF DRIVERS THAT JOINED OUR TRAINING PROGRAM LAST WEEK, LAST MONDAY FROM A NEIGHBORING DISTRICT, AND THEY'RE ON THE ROAD THIS WEEK.

SO GLAD TO SEE THEM, AND I TOLD YOU ALL A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THOSE ABOUT FOUR WEEKS AGO, SO WE'RE GLAD TO SEE A LARGE NUMBER OF THEM IN OUR POOL NOW THAT SHOULD FINISH PRETTY QUICKLY.

AND WE DON'T GIVE UP IF THEY FAIL THE CLP THE FIRST TIME THEY GET UP TO FOUR TRIES BEFORE WE EXCUSE THEM. SO FIFTY EIGHT CANDIDATES ARE STILL DOING IN THAT PROCESS.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE TWENTY FIVE HAVE DROPPED OUT FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

SOME ACTUALLY DIDN'T SHOW UP ON THE FIRST MONDAY, SO I'M DETERMINED AFTER GETTING EXPOSED TO THE DEPARTMENT AND DECIDING THAT SCHOOL BUS DRIVING WASN'T FOR THEM, AND SOME DID STRUGGLE WITH THAT INITIAL EXAM FAILED IT FOUR TIMES AND HAVE HOPEFULLY BECOME BUS ATTENDANTS OR CUSTODIANS.

BE HAPPY TO ENTERTAIN YOUR QUESTIONS.

I JUST WANT TO NOTE THAT LAST WEEK WAS OUR BEST WEEK.

WE HAD FOURTEEN FOLKS FINISH.

WE'RE EXPECTING SIMILAR NUMBERS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS TO REALLY BITE INTO THAT REALLY LARGE DEFICIT THAT WE STARTED WITH.

I MET A COUPLE THAT WERE AHEAD THEIR CLP'S AND THAT WERE LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD WITH AN INSTRUCTOR. JUST A LOT OF FOLKS, I THINK WE GOT HIGH QUALITY PEOPLE THAT REALLY WANT TO DO THIS JOB, AND THAT'S WHAT'S EXCITING.

AND OF COURSE, WE HOPE TO RETAIN THEM.

THAT'S ONE OF OUR NEXT BIG STEPS, TOO.

FRYE WAS TRYING TO HELP SOME INDIVIDUAL PARENTS THAT WE'RE HAVING TROUBLE IN THAT LIST OF EIGHT OR TEN WENT TO TYLER AND SAID, HEY, CAN WE DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF THEM HAVE ACCESS? AND THEY MADE THAT REPAIR, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY TOOK THE SYSTEM DOWN AND IT DID NOT COME BACK UP. AND SO WE LOST ALMOST 24 HOURS ON I GUESS IT WAS EITHER THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND FRIDAY MORNING OR A DAY BEFORE THAT.

AND THAT WAS TROUBLING.

I MEAN, WE'VE GOT 30000 PEOPLE THAT WANT TO USE THIS APP, AND WE'VE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO COMMUNICATE DOWNTIME IN THE FUTURE.

AND SO HE'S IDENTIFYING SPECIFIC PEOPLE THAT DR.

EVEN THE VERY BEST TEACHER AND I KNOW SOME OF YOU AROUND THE TABLE WERE GREAT TEACHERS, RIGHT? THERE'S PHYSICAL SECURITY AND THEN OUR SECURITY MEASURES.

SAFETY BEGINS WITH PREVENTION.

FAMILIES AND SCHOOL STAFF MUST WORK TOGETHER TO PARTNER TO REINFORCE POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIORS. WE'RE COMMITTED TO MAKING SURE THAT WE MEET THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR WELL-BEING.

WE'RE DOING THIS THROUGH FIRST OUR SUPPORTIVE SCHOOL CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTS WHERE STUDENTS FEEL SAFE.

THEY ARE A PART OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY AND WE WANT THEM TO BE MOTIVATED AND CHALLENGED IN THE WORK THAT THEY DO.

WE WANT TO PROVIDE DIRECT INSTRUCTION ON THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE CONSISTENT, CONSISTENTLY HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW, PRACTICE AND REFLECT ON THEIR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS AND SKILLS.

WE WANT THEM TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH THEIR CLASSMATES.

WE HAVE COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY CIRCLES.

WE DO CONFERENCES.

WE SET NORMS AND AGREEMENTS WITHIN OUR CLASSROOMS. WE ALSO WANT STUDENTS TO PRACTICE THOSE SKILLS IN THE CLASSROOM AND DURING THE SCHOOL DAY TO PROMOTE DEEPER LEARNING FOR THE STUDENTS.

WE WANT TO CULTIVATE STRONGER RELATIONSHIPS AND HELP THEM TO SOLVE PROBLEMS CONSTRUCTIVELY PROMOTE RESPECT.

I KNOW YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS IN OCTOBER, WHERE THIS IS OUR CCPS BULLYING AND PREVENTION PROGRAM, BUT WE DID A REBOOT ON THE PROMOTE AND RESPECT PROGRAM THIS YEAR TO ENSURE FIDELITY AMONG OUR SCHOOLS.

WE CREATED ONE DISTRICT WIDE REPORTING SYSTEM, AND WE ALSO CREATED LEADS IN OUR SCHOOL BUILDING TO PROVIDE UPDATED TRAINING AND RESOURCES WITH THIS BULLYING PREVENTION ON THE ON THE LINK OF THE EVERY WEBSITE SCHOOL WEBSITE.

THERE'S A BUTTON THAT SOMEONE CAN REPORT AN INCIDENT THAT'S HAPPENED AND THAT GOES TO SOMEONE IN THE SCHOOL TO RESPOND TO THOSE THOSE CONCERNS.

WE RECOGNIZE THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN BEHAVIORS AND INFRACTIONS WARRANT CONSEQUENCES, SUCH AS SUSPENSION AND INVOLVEMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.

OUR DESIRE IS TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE INSTEAD OF PUNISHMENTS AND REWARDS, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS USE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES TO TO MOVE AWAY FROM HURTFUL BEHAVIORS AND SOME, AND TO BE ABLE TO NURTURE MORE INTRINSIC DESIRE TO TREAT OTHERS AND CARE AND RESPECT FOR THEM.

SOME OF THE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES THAT WE USE IMPROVES THE SCHOOL CLIMATE AND STRENGTHENS THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SKILLS OF YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS.

THE USE OF RESTORATIVE PRACTICES HELPS TO REDUCE CRIME, VIOLENCE AND BULLYING, AND ALSO TO IMPROVE HUMAN BEHAVIOR.

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN STUDENTS EXHIBIT BEHAVIORS WHERE THEY CAN NO LONGER BE A PART OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. AND THIS IS A TIME WHEN, BECAUSE OF A VIOLENT FIGHT OR WEAPONS OR DRUGS, STUDENTS ARE ARE ASKED TO NOT BE THERE AND OUR ADMINISTRATORS WORK WITH PARENTS AND FAMILIES TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS GET DUE PROCESS, BUT ALSO THEY RECEIVE THE CONSEQUENCE THAT WARRANTS THE BEHAVIOR THAT WAS EXHIBITED.

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE DO WORK WITH OUR OFFICE OF STUDENT CONDUCT AS NEEDED WHEN THE BEHAVIORS ARE SEVERE, BUT WE ALWAYS WORK TO MAKE SURE THAT WHILE STUDENTS ARE OUT THAT WE STILL PROVIDE WORKING ASSIGNMENT TO THOSE STUDENTS WITH A GOAL OF GETTING THEM BACK INTO SCHOOL. SECURITY TECHNIQUES AND PERSONNEL HAVING SECURITY PERSONNEL IN PLACE AT OUR SCHOOLS HELPS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY, THE SAFETY OF THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT IN OUR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS, WE HAVE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AS WELL AS SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICERS, AND THEY MONITOR THE ACTIONS THAT ARE HAPPENING AT THE SCHOOL AS WELL AS SUPPORT ADMINISTRATION WHEN THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DEAL WITH.

WE ALSO HAVE TWO SECURITY MANAGERS THAT ARE DIVISION WIDE STAFF WHO WHENEVER THERE'S

WE ALSO HAVE PHYSICAL, PHYSICAL SECURITY, SUCH AS OUR CAMERAS, ACCESS CONTROLS AND VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS. ONGOING COUNSELING SUPPORT MORE THAN SAD IS A PROGRAM THAT WE WORK WITH IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR WITH OUR COALITION FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION.

CAMERON FOUNDATION WORKS WITH OUR SCHOOL SOUTH OF ROUTE 10, BUT THIS PROGRAM IS GOING TO ALLOW US TO GET THAT BASELINE MENTAL HEALTH.

CONSULTATION WITH CHILD SAVERS SO THAT WE CAN GET IN THE BUILDING AND BUILD CAPACITY TO MEET OUR STUDENTS MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS.

WE'RE WORKING REALLY CLOSELY WITH OUR CHESTERFIELD COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THEY SUPPORT US THROUGH OUR GAGGLE SUPPORT.

SO ON THE WEEKENDS OR AFTER HOURS, IF THERE IS A GAGGLE CONCERNED, WE ACTUALLY CALL OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY DO WELLNESS CHECKS FOR US.

I'M HAPPY TO PRESENT TO YOU OUR PROGRESS ON THE PROPOSED TWO NEW MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT 360 WEST AND FALLING CREEK ON THE REBUILD THERE JUST TO STAY HIGH LEVEL AS WE START OUR INTENTION ON PROGRAM IS TO ACTUALLY BUILD A LARGER MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAN WHAT WE PRESENTLY BUILT AT MANCHESTER.

RAISING THE OCCUPANCY TO EIGHTEEN HUNDRED STUDENTS ON THE PROGRAM SIDE WITH THE CAFETERIA, AUDITORIUM AND GYM ALL UPSIZED TO ACCOMMODATE THAT LARGER CLASSROOM STUDENT AND TEACHER LOAD.

SO SIX FIFTY IN THE CAFETERIA, ONE THOUSAND AND TWELVE HUNDRED IN THE AUDITORIUM, TWELVE HUNDRED IN THE GYM. ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR CLASSROOMS FOR ALL THE VARIOUS PROGRAM NEEDS AND PURPOSES. WE'VE BEEN WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM, YOU KNOW, ON WHAT THOSE NUMBERS LOOK LIKE AND WHAT THOSE NEEDS ARE.

SO THAT COVERS THE ENTIRE GAMUT OF CLASSROOM NEEDS WITH A GROSS SQUARE FOOTAGE OF ROUGHLY TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY THOUSAND SQUARE FEET.

SO IT'S A LARGER FOOTPRINT.

WHAT WE'VE DETERMINED IS THAT THIS NEW FACILITY, NEW PROTOTYPE ADAPTION WILL NEED TO BE THREE STORIES IN HEIGHT TO ACCOMMODATE THESE NEEDS ON THE TWO SITES IN QUESTION.

OK. AND THE BASIC MODEL WILL FOLLOW, OR THE INTENT IS TO FOLLOW THE MANCHESTER MODEL AT

THE SECOND LEVEL AGAIN FOLLOWING THE MANCHESTER WITH THE MEDIA CENTER FRONT AND CENTER AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRCASE.

IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF DRAMA THERE.

EACH FLOOR WOULD HAVE ITS OWN GRADE LEVEL SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH AS YOU RIDE UP WITH COMMON GRADE LEVEL CLASSROOMS AT THE CENTER WING.

SO THIRD LEVEL WHERE WE'RE OUT OF THE MEDIA CENTER.

SO THE PROTOTYPE LOOKS GOOD.

IT'S VERY ADAPTABLE.

WE'VE BEEN BUILDING A VERY SOLID BUILDING HERE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, HOWEVER.

WELL, ACTUALLY, BEFORE WE GET TO THAT, WE'VE ASKED OUR ARCHITECT TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF MODELING ABOUT WHAT THAT MIGHT LOOK LIKE.

SO THIS IS ACTUALLY THE MANCHESTER SITE EXTRUDED ONE LEVEL.

WE WOULD STILL USE THE SAME CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY TO HELP SPEED UP THAT PROCESS, LIKE MY PRESENTATION.

SO JUST A FEW OTHER QUICK SHOTS OF WHAT MANCHESTER MIGHT HAVE LOOKED LIKE HAD IT BEEN THREE STORIES, BUT THIS WOULD AGAIN APPLY TO THE NEW PROTOTYPE.

SO AS YOU ALL ARE AWARE, OUR NEW 360 MIDDLE SCHOOL SITE IS TO THE TO THE WEST OF [INAUDIBLE] ROAD, NORTH OF MOSELEY AND NORTH OF GRANGE HALL AND NORTH OF COSBY, RIGHT AT THE END OF WESTERLY PARKWAY.

WESTERLY PARKWAY EXTENDED IS ACTUALLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION RIGHT NOW.

AND THIS IS A SLIDE FROM A RECENT PUBLIC PRESENTATION.

THE 10 INCH WATER MAIN DEPICTED HERE WILL BE RUN RIGHT ALONGSIDE ON THE SCHOOL SIDE THAT IS OF THAT NEW ROADWAY AND A NEW TRUNK SEWER LINE WILL EXTEND DOWN KIND OF ALONG THE [INAUDIBLE] CREEK STREAM BED DOWN TO LAUDERDALE ROAD TO CONNECT INTO EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE, AND THIS IS ALL BEING FUNDED BY THE [INAUDIBLE].

YOU'LL NOTICE THIS SITE IS ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO PLUS OR MINUS ACRES.

WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THE SHAPE THERE TOO, BUT THE INTENTION, AS YOU KNOW, IS TO BUILD THREE SCHOOLS AND A LIBRARY ON THIS PROPERTY TO HELP ECONOMIZE THAT SITE AND MAKE BETTER USE OF OUR UTILITIES AND RESOURCES.

ULTIMATELY, THIS IS WHAT THE SITE LOOKS LIKE AT FULL BUILD OUT AT A VERY CONCEPTUAL LEVEL, SHOWING THE, THE MIDDLE, THE HIGH AND THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LOCATIONS AGAIN IN CONCEPT WITH A FUTURE LIBRARY HERE AT THE SOUTHERN END OF THE SITE.

WHAT YOU SEE IN BLUE ARE MAPPED WETLANDS.

WE DO NOT YET HAVE A JURISDICTION WITH DETERMINATION THAT'S JUST A FANCY WORD FOR SAYING APPROVED WETLANDS AND A RESOURCE PROTECTION AREA ALONG [INAUDIBLE] CREEK THROUGH THE SOUTH END OF THE SITE.

AGAIN, ULTIMATE BUILD OUT FIRST PHASE SHOWING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL KIND OF ON THE PRIME REAL ESTATE ON THE SITE WITH AS LITTLE WETLAND IMPACT AS POSSIBLE, WE'LL STILL STAY UNDER.

I BELIEVE IT'S ABOUT A HALF AN ACRE AT THIS POINT, WHICH MEANS A MUCH SMOOTHER REGULATORY REVIEW. HOWEVER, IN THE LONG TERM, WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE PERMITTING TO TAKE CARE OF FULL COMPLEMENT OF SITE COMPONENTS AND A AUDITORIUM WHICH WILL ULTIMATELY CONNECT TO THE HIGH SCHOOL TO HELP ECONOMIZE THE USE OF AUDITORIUM SPACE.

LONG TERM, WE'VE HAD TO ADAPT THE PROTOTYPE TO FIT THIS SITE A LITTLE BIT BETTER, MOST NOTABLY THE LOCATION OF THE AUDITORIUM, WHICH WOULD ULTIMATELY LINK INTO A FUTURE HIGH SCHOOL, ON THE FLIP SIDE, AGAIN SHARED SPACE ECONOMY OF USE AND A LITTLE BIT OF COST MITIGATION AS WELL.

BUT THE THE BUILDING ITSELF TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF DIFFERENT SHAPE, BUT ULTIMATELY FITS THE SITE FAIRLY WELL.

SO THAT IS 360 WEST STILL WORKING THROUGH OUR [INAUDIBLE] IS OUR ARCHITECT.

I'M VERY HAPPY TO TO BE INVOLVED IN THAT PROCESS AGAIN.

SO MOVING ALONG TO FALLING CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL KIND OF A BIT MORE OF A CHALLENGING SITE HERE, TOO, BECAUSE OF ITS SIZE, LOCATION, EXISTING USE ON A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT FACTORS.

BUT WE ARE CONSIDERING TWO ALTERNATIVES HERE.

THE FIRST ONE BEING TO DEMOLISH THE EXISTING BUILDING VERY EARLY IN THE PROCESS AND HOUSE THE FALLING CREEK OPERATION IN A MEGA TRAILER VILLAGE.

I KNOW WE'VE SPOKEN ABOUT THIS A LITTLE BIT IN PAST MEETINGS, BUT ALSO TO EXPAND THE THE FOOTPRINT OF THE OVERALL MIDDLE SCHOOL PRESENCE TO ACCOMMODATE THEIR FIELD PROGRAM, WHICH IS PART OF OUR CORE CORE DEVELOPMENT SCHEME.

WE'VE HAD A NUMBER OF CONVERSATIONS AND A BIT OF SOUL SEARCHING ABOUT THIS, ABOUT HOW LOGISTICALLY TO OPERATE A FULL MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR TWO PLUS YEARS OUT OF A MEGA TRAILER VILLAGE. MOVING THINGS LIKE DROP OFF, PICK UP, BUS STORAGE, KITCHEN, P.E., ATHLETICS, THINGS OF THAT NATURE ON A TIGHT SITE LIKE THIS.

AND IT IS [INAUDIBLE] WITH CHALLENGES AS AS YOU KNOW, AND WE HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION

WITH COUNTY PLANNING JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO ABOUT HOW TO GET THAT DONE AND THE KEY WORD HERE. MULTIPLE SITE PLAN REVIEWS ARE REQUIRED.

EACH OF THOSE REVIEWS TAKES ABOUT SIX MONTHS.

WE WOULD HAVE AN ENABLING AND AN ACTUAL SITE PLAN REVIEW, SO THERE'S A LOT OF UPFRONT WORK ON THE REGULATORY SIDE WITH A CONVENTIONAL BUILDING SUCH AS THIS.

THAT LED US TO A SECOND ALTERNATIVE, WHICH I'M HAPPY TO SAY IS TO USE THE SPACE IN BETWEEN THE EXISTING TWO OPERATIONS OF THE ELEMENTARY AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, CLEAR SOME LAND THAT WE WOULD HAVE CLEARED ANY WAY TO HELP ACCOMMODATE THE ATHLETICS PROGRAM THAT'S CORE TO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL FUNCTION.

BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS WE WOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN THE EXISTING OPERATION AND THE EXISTING MEGA TRAILERS THAT ARE ALREADY IN THE BACK WITHOUT HAVING TO MOVE THE KITCHEN WITHOUT HAVING TO MOVE, DROP OFF AND PICK UP.

AND WITH ONLY ONE SINGLE SITE PLAN REVIEW THAT MAKES THE COUNTY VERY HAPPY AND HELPS EXPEDITE THIS PROCESS.

SO WE'RE LOOKING INTO THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE THESE DAYS.

IN FACT, WE'VE TAKEN OUR PROTOTYPE, MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO IT, THE FIT.

THIS IS BASICALLY THE FORM FIT TEST SEEMS TO FIT THERE FAIRLY WELL.

WE HAVE TO MOVE A PLAYGROUND OR TWO HERE OVER AT FALLING CREEK ELEMENTARY.

THAT'S REALLY NOT TOO CHALLENGING TO DO, BUT THE BENEFIT OF THIS IS IT GETS US ALL THE PARKING. WE NEED THE BUS DROP OFF, PICK UP AND A FULL SIGHT PROGRAM.

WHAT FALLING CREEK IS SORELY MISSING RIGHT NOW IS A RUNNING TRACK.

THERE ARE ONLY ONE OF TWO SCHOOLS, TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT DON'T HAVE A TRACK RIGHT NOW.

THE OTHER BEING SALEM CHURCH, BUT ALSO THE OTHER THE REMAINING COMPLEMENT OF SITE FEATURES. SO THIS THIS SCHEME LOOKS VERY DOABLE, A LITTLE BIT MORE PRACTICAL.

PLUS IT SAVES US UPWARDS OF EIGHT TO TEN MILLION DOLLARS AND COULD HAVE BEEN SUNK COSTS ON THE MEGA TRAILER VILLAGE.

NOT TO MENTION THE BIG CHALLENGE OF HOUSING A MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THOSE TRAILERS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, PROTOTYPE LOOKS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT AGAIN.

BUT YOU KNOW, THE PARTS AND PIECES HAVE SHIFTED SOMEWHAT SUCH THAT ALL OF YOUR PUBLIC SPACE AGAIN IS UP FRONT RIGHT OFF THE LOBBY, WITH BUS DROP OFF ACCESS CLEARLY COMING DOWN TO HALLWAYS INTO THE MAIN CORRIDOR, FEEDING THE ACADEMIC WINGS AND THE PUBLIC SPACES.

BUT AGAIN, TO THE PARTS, IT WORKS FAIRLY WELL.

THE THE MAIN DIFFERENCE ASIDE FROM SHAPE BETWEEN THIS AND THE 360 PROTOTYPE, EXCUSE ME, IS THE SIZE OF THE AUDITORIUM.

THIS WOULD BE A MORE CONVENTIONAL FIT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLS AT A THOUSAND SEATS.
