RECENT FACILITY CONDITION ASSESSMENTS HAVE IDENTIFIED THE NEED TO REPLACE EXISTING EQUIPMENT OF THIS TYPE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA.

NUMBER ONE, THE EXISTING EQUIPMENT HAS OUTLIVED ITS EXPECTED AND USEFUL LIFESPAN AND SHOULD BE REPLACED.

NUMBER TWO, ASHRAE, THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEATING, REFRIGERATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING ENGINEERS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE CONTINUOUS INTRODUCTION OF OUTSIDE AIR WHILE MAINTAINING DESIGN, TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY SET POINTS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED.

NUMBER THREE, ACCOMMODATION SHOULD BE MADE FOR REHEAT AND HUMIDITY CONTROL TO IMPROVE OCCUPANT COMFORT AND INDOOR AIR QUALITY.

CCPS IS PRESENTLY DESIGNING THESE SYSTEM REPLACEMENTS AND THE UPGRADE OF THE WATER SOURCE HEAT PUMPS, COOLING TOWERS AND BOILERS AT THE SCHOOLS WITH THE GREATEST NEED IDENTIFIED AS ECOFF, ALBERTA, SMITH, CLOVERHILL AND WOOLRIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

BUDGET ESTIMATES HAVE BEEN PREPARED BY CCPS CONSULTANT DEWBERRY.

ENGINEERS AS FOLLOWS.

EACH SCHOOL AT 2.97-6 MILLION DOLLARS, WHICH INCLUDES CONTINGENCY FOR A TOTAL BUDGET CONSIDERATION ESTIMATE OF 11,184,000 DOLLARS.

CCPS INTENDS TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION ON THIS WORK DURING THE SPRING OF 2022.

THEREFORE, AN IFB FOR CONSTRUCTION SERVICES WILL BE ISSUED VIA THE COUNTY'S PING SYSTEM IN LATE OCTOBER OF 2021, WITH SEALED BIDS PLANNED TO BE DUE TO THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY PURCHASING DEPARTMENT NO LATER THAN EARLY JANUARY OF 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT, THE PROPOSED CONTRACT HAS NO IMPACT ON THE OVERALL MAJOR MAINTENANCE BUDGET. THERE IS AN AVAILABLE BALANCE OF OVER $6.3 MILLION IN THE WATER SOURCE SYSTEM KEY. THAT'S OUR BUDGET, AND CCPS INTENDS TO TRANSFER THE REMAINING BALANCE FOR THIS EFFORT, PLUS A SUITABLE CONTINGENCY OF APPROXIMATELY $5 MILLION FROM ITS MAJOR MAINTENANCE CONTINGENCY KEY.

THE PRESENT BALANCE IN THAT KEY 64926S1 TOTALS OVER $13 MILLION.

THE ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE FOR THIS WORK, AS ALLUDED TO PREVIOUSLY, WE HOPE TO OBTAIN YOUR APPROVAL THIS EVENING ON THIS MEMO ISSUE.

THE IFB BY THE END OF THE MONTH OR EARLY NOVEMBER OF 2021, RECEIVED BIDS IN JANUARY OF 2020 TO PROCEED WITH THE WORK DURING THE SPRING OF 2022 AND MOBILIZE FOR CONSTRUCTION NO LATER THAN JUNE 4TH OF 2022.

OUR RECOMMENDED ACTION THIS EVENING IS THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD AUTHORIZE THE PROCUREMENT DIRECTOR TO ENTER INTO A CONSTRUCTION AGREEMENT WITH THE LOWEST RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER FOR THE WATER SOURCE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT PROJECT AND APPROVE ANY NECESSARY CHANGE ORDERS NOT TO EXCEED 11.2 MILLION.

THE OBJECTIVES OF WHICH ARE NUMBER ONE, TO IMPROVE SAFETY AND SECURITY AT SCHOOLS.

NUMBER TWO, TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL STUDENT CAPACITY FOR INSTRUCTION.

THE NEW REAMS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RIBBON CUTTING WAS HELD IN JUNE OF 2021, AND THAT NEW FACILITY IS OPEN FOR INSTRUCTION.

FIVE OF THE SIX MODULAR BUILDINGS AT AM DAVIS ELEMENTARY, WHICH WERE USED TO TEMPORARILY HOUSE REAMS ELEMENTARY DURING CONSTRUCTION, HAVE BEEN REPURPOSED TO SUPPORT EXPANDED INSTRUCTIONAL NEEDS FOR AM DAVIS AND THE VIRTUAL LEARNING ACADEMY.

SO ONE 10 CLASSROOM TRAILER IS NO LONGER NEEDED FOR INSTRUCTION AT THIS SITE.

GIVEN THE QUANTITY, DISBURSEMENT AND CONDITION OF SINGLE CLASSROOM BUILDINGS OR TRAILERS COUNTYWIDE, CCPS WOULD LIKE TO RELOCATE THIS ONE BUILDING TO FALLING CREEK ELEMENTARY AND CONTINUE ITS LEASE AS A MEANS TO NUMBER ONE.

ALLEVIATE SPACE AND ENROLLMENT PRESSURE.

FALLING CREEK ELEMENTARY PRESENTLY HOSTS 14 INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOM TRAILERS AND RELOCATING THIS TRAILER WILL ALLOW CCPS TO REMOVE THE MAJORITY OF THOSE UNITS FROM THIS PROPERTY.

NUMBER TWO, ENHANCE STUDENT AND FACULTY SAFETY BY CONSOLIDATING MULTIPLE MODULAR CLASSROOMS UNDER ONE ROOF.

FOR EXAMPLE, MEGA TRAILERS HAVE RESTROOMS AND SINGLE MODULAR DO NOT.

THIS REDUCES THE TIME AND EXPOSURE FOR STUDENTS WALKING BACK AND FORTH TO THE SCHOOL BUILDING FOR THIS PURPOSE.

THE FISCAL IMPACT OF THIS INITIATIVE TOTALS 1,491,397 DOLLARS, WHICH CONSISTS OF SOFT COSTS, BUILDING, RELOCATION AND SETUP PERMITS, UTILITIES CONTINGENCY AND THE FEE FOR THE TWO YEARS OF EXTENDED LEASE FOR THIS UNIT.

1,491,397 DOLLARS.

THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RELOCATION AND THE TWO YEARS OF LEASE WILL HAVE NO IMPACT ON THE OVERALL CIP BUDGET.

THE TOTAL PROJECT COST WILL BE FUNDED BY SHIFTING EXISTING SURPLUS FUNDS FROM THE NEW HARROGATE, MATOACA, AND CRESTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE TRANSPORTATION ISSUES THAT'S BEEN PLAGUING OUR COUNTY RECENTLY SINCE THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

MY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN LATE TO SCHOOL NEARLY EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND AS THE ISSUES WORSENED, I BECAME AWARE THAT OTHER FAMILIES WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.

I GOT FED UP AND DECIDED THAT I WAS GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE AT THE EXECUTIVE LEVEL IN CCPS, AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE SCHOOL BOARD, WAS MADE AWARE EVERY TIME THAT MY STUDENTS BUS WAS LATE, EITHER TO OR FROM SCHOOL.

I ALSO ENCOURAGE OTHER PARENTS TO DO THE EXACT SAME AND AS YOU KNOW, THEY DID.

BEFORE GOING INTO DETAIL, I WANT TO THANK AREA THREE, MANAGER JACQUELINE WROTE.

WHILE THINGS ARE NOT YET PERFECT AND COMMUNICATIONS ISSUES STILL PERSIST, MS. ROACH HAS DEMONSTRATED TRUE LEADERSHIP AND COMPETENCE IN WORKING TOWARDS RESOLVING THESE TWO ISSUES ONCE A SCHOOL BOARD BECAME INVOLVED AND OTHERS GOT OUT OF HER WAY, WE SAW IMMEDIATE AND SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS IN THESE ISSUES.

I'VE ALSO BEEN MADE AWARE BY MEMBERS OF THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP THAT DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION DR.

FRYE HAS BEEN AWARE OF THESE ISSUES FOR WEEKS, IF NOT MONTHS, AND FAILED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT A MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN A POSITION WHERE HE HAS NO EXPERIENCE IN TRANSPORTATION OR LOGISTICS, AND HE IS NOT QUALIFIED FOR THIS ROLE, AND THOSE SENTIMENTS HAVE BEEN ECHOED BY MANY, INCLUDING HIS OWN STAFF MEMBERS.

HIS INCOMPETENCE FOR HIS POSITION IS PROFOUND.

SINGING WITH MASKS ON CAN MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE AND HARD TO BREATHE EFFICIENTLY.

IF STUDENTS WERE VACCINATED, THEN THIS WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM.

RAPID TESTING IN SCHOOLS WOULD INCREASE SAFETY FOR THE STUDENTS AND STAFF.

RATHER, IT'S ONE OF THE LARGEST LOBBYING GROUPS IN THE NATION.

IT'S AN ORGANIZATION OF BUSINESSES WHOSE GOAL IS TO FURTHER THE INTERESTS OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY, AND ITS MISSION IS TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH BUSINESSES CAN PROSPER.

ACCORDING TO OPEN SECRETS IN 2018, THE CHAMBER AND ITS SUBSIDIARY GROUPS SPENT ALMOST $95 MILLION LOBBYING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

THE TOP ISSUES AT LOBBY FOUR WERE TORT REFORM, FINANCE, LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIME, FEDERAL BUDGET AND APPROPRIATIONS, TRANSPORTATION AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS.

IN ADDITION TO THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SPENT LOBBYING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, THIS IS THE SAME YEAR THAT THE KOREAN TECH GROUP NATIONAL SKILLS COALITION SENT A LETTER TO CONGRESS OUTLINING THE NEEDS FOR STATES TO SUBMIT STANDARDIZED INDICATORS ACROSS ALL STREAMS, INCLUDING EDUCATION FOR TALENT PIPELINES, BASICALLY ENSURING THAT CURRICULUM AND PROGRAMS OF STUDY WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF THEY ALIGN WITH PROJECTED WORKFORCE NEEDS.

IN ESSENCE, IF IT CAN'T BE TIED TO A JOB IN YOUR SECTOR, IT WON'T BE FUNDED OR TAUGHT IN.

THOUGH OUR EDUCATORS ARE UNDER COMPENSATED FULL STOP.

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING IS ALSO ABOUT WORKING CONDITIONS.

LUNCH BREAKS, 40 HOUR WORK WEEKS, EIGHT HOUR DAYS AND WORKPLACE SAFETY, ALL CAME TO AMERICA THROUGH COLLECTIVE BARGAINING.

AS THE WORKING CONDITIONS OF CHESTERFIELD EDUCATORS ARE DEFINED BY THE POLICIES OF THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THIS SCHOOL BOARD, THE BURDEN OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING FALLS TO YOU AS WELL. WHAT I LEARNED LAST YEAR IS THAT EDUCATORS ARE SCARED.

SCARED THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL NOT DO ENOUGH TO PROTECT THEM, IN THE DAYS BEFORE WE HAD ACCESS TO THESE LIFESAVING VACCINES.

THIS CONCERN ME, AS MOST MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE 11 OR 12 YEARS OLD.

I DECIDED TO READ THE BOOK MYSELF.

AFTER READING THE BOOK, I HAD CONCERNS.

SO AS A FAMILY, WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD NOT READ THAT BOOK.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE BOB RULES CHANGED.

THIS CHANGE RESULTED IN THE BOOK LIST BEING REDUCED TO SIX BOOKS, ALL OF WHICH NEEDED TO BE READ IN ORDER TO MAKE THE TEAM, AND THE QUESTIONABLE BOOK WAS ON THE LIST.

I SHARED MY CONCERNS WITH THE BOB ADVISOR AND THE PRINCIPAL.

I WAS TOLD QUOTE THERE ARE SITUATIONS IN WHICH TEXT ARE READ WHEN THE READING OR INTEREST LEVEL IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER.

THE READING LEVEL IS NEAR THE MEDIAN AGES OF OUR SCHOOL POPULATION.

THE POSITIVE HERE IS THAT A SCENARIO DEVELOPS IN WHICH READING AT INTEREST LEVELS CREATE INTENSE ENGAGEMENT.

THE DOWNSIDE IS THAT THERE ARE SOMETIMES SITUATIONS IN WHICH SOME MORE COMPLEX THEMES, WORDS OR SECTIONS ARISE.

I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE SOME OF THE MORE COMPLEX THEMES AND WORDS FEATURED IN A BAD BOY, A MEMOIR. "I GLANCE AT ONE OF THE MEN AGAINST THE WALL, AND IT LOOKED AS IF HE WAS SKIN POPPING, SHOOTING HEROIN UNDER HIS SKIN.

A LOT OF PEOPLE THOUGHT YOU WOULDN'T GET HOOKED IF YOU SHOOT SKIN POP, INSTEAD OF INJECTING THE DRUG DIRECTLY INTO A VEIN.

I HAD A PENIS AND THEREFORE I HAD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT BEING MALE MEANT.

THEY TALKED AS IF SEX WERE THE GREATEST THING THAT HAD EVER HAPPENED AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE SEX FOREMOST IN YOUR MIND.

I HADN'T HAD SEX, DIDN'T KNOW A THING ABOUT IT, EXCEPT WHAT I HAD LEARNED FROM ERIC.

ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE INS AND OUTS OF SEXUALITY.

I DID UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A CONNECTION BETWEEN HOMOSEXUALITY AND BEING A FAGGOT.

I STILL READ GOBS OF COMICS AND AN INCREASING NUMBER OF TRASHY NOVELS THAT PROMISED ANY AMOUNT OF SEX CONTENT.

SHE ASKED ME ABOUT MY FAMILY LIFE AND ASKED ME IF I'D EVER HAD SEX WITH A GIRL.

I ANSWERED THAT I HAD.

I KNEW THE ANSWER I WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE.

I WAS BLACK AND 16.

IF WHAT I HAD HEARD FROM OTHER KIDS, MY AGE WAS TRUE.

THEY WERE ALL HAVING SEX." I READ THIS BOOK.

IT IS THOUGHT PROVOKING AND I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE ADULTS TO READ THIS BOOK.

HOWEVER, I CANNOT SUPPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS READING PASSAGES LIKE THESE IN CLASS OR IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

I HOPE THE BOARD WILL TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS BOOK AND CONSIDER WHETHER THEY FEEL IT SHOULD BE READ BY SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS.

I HOPE THAT OUR LIBRARY DEPARTMENT WILL CONSIDER MORE THAN JUST THE MEDIAN AGE OF A STUDENT POPULATION WHEN CHOOSING BOOKS.

SO IN LOOKING AT THE MEMO THAT WAS APPROVED, THERE'S A LOT, YOU KNOW, ALLOCATED FOR EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES AND AND FOR PRESCHOOL AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

THE FUNDING IS ACTUALLY INTENDED AS WAS INTENDED TO ACTUALLY GO TO THE PARENTS OF SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS TO LET THEM HELP.

TRY THIS RECOVERY OF LEARNING AND TO KICK START IT, BECAUSE THERE WAS A PRESENTATION LAST MONTH WHERE THERE WERE CIRCLE DIAGRAMS, THERE'S BLUE, I BELIEVE ON THE OUTSIDE, RIGHT ON THE INSIDE AND EVERYBODY AGREED.

YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY, YOU KNOW, HAVE THEY MISSED A LOT OF SCHOOL TIME IN SOME CASES, BUT YOU KNOW, DOCTORS' OFFICES HAVE HAD TO DO DISTANCING AS WELL, AND A LOT OF THEM HAVE REALLY MISSED A LOT OF THEIR ROUTINE MEDICAL THINGS.

AND WHEN YOU'RE NOT WELL AND YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PERFORM WELL IN SCHOOL. SO MOST OF THE THINGS HAVE COME THROUGH.

WE STARTED IN MAY.

SOCKS ARE ALREADY COMING DOWN THE PIPELINE.

THE BOARD OF VIRGINIA BOARD OF EDUCATION RECENTLY HAD A TWO DAY MEETING SESSION.

THAT'S OK. IMPROVEMENTS ARE COMING DOWN THE LINE.

RAISES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION EDUCATORS AND FOLKS WITH ENDORSEMENTS ARE COMING THROUGH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AS WELL, SO THAT'S PRETTY FAST, WE JUST STARTED IN MAY.

THE LAST THING THAT'S COMING IS IEP STREAMLINING, AND EVEN THOUGH THE STATE IS ALREADY WORKING ON STUFF LIKE THAT, IT'S GOING TO BE FOLLOWED BY A FEDERAL DOCUMENT WHICH ALSO WAS JUST RELEASED VERY QUICKLY AND FINAL REVIEW STAGES.

AND IT'S GOING TO HELP, YOU KNOW, REALLY, REALLY EASE AND JUST MAKE THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, WE ALL HOPE, A WHOLE LOT MORE STREAMLINED AND MORE SUCCESSFUL FOR ALL AND. JUST MORE SUCCESSFUL FOR ALL AND REALLY BE MUCH MORE AMENABLE TO NOT ONLY STAFF, BUT FAMILY AND SUPPORTERS.

RECENTLY, THE U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL PUBLISHED A MEMORANDUM EQUATING PARENTS WHO SPEAK OUT AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS AKIN TO DOMESTIC TERRORISTS.

THIS IS, AMONG OTHER RECENT COMMENTS ADVOCATING FOR PARENTAL RESTRICTIONS.

I FIND THIS ABHORRENT.

WE, AS A SOCIETY HAVE GOTTEN TO A PLACE WHERE IF WE DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, WE CAN UNFRIEND YOU, WE CAN BLOCK YOU.

PROTEST ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES LEAD TO BANNING UNWELCOMED GUEST SPEAKERS.

A LOCAL GROUP MAY NOT AGREE WITH A GROUP THAT I'M A PART OF, SO THEY MAKE A DECLARATION THAT WE ARE RADICAL EXTREMISTS.

I ASSURE YOU THAT I DON'T THINK I'M EXTREME.

IN EDUCATION, MY PRIORITY IS TO CHILDREN FIRST, TEACHERS SECOND AND ADMINISTRATION IS A DISTANT THIRD. I'M SPEAKING PREEMPTIVELY TO SAY THAT AS A PARENT WHO'S LEARNED A LOT ABOUT LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM, I WILL CONTINUE TO BE INVOLVED IN THE EDUCATIONAL UPBRINGING OF MY CHILDREN.

BEING ENGAGED IS EXHAUSTING.

BUT THE WELFARE OF MY CHILDREN IS PARAMOUNT.

HENRICO COUNTY HAS 10000 LESS STUDENTS THAN CHESTERFIELD, YET THEY HAVE 72 BUILDINGS IN THEIR SCHOOL DIVISION.

I URGE CITIZENS TO ORGANIZE AROUND THIS AND COMMUNICATE THEIR DESIRE TO SECURE REVENUE IN THESE WAYS WITH THEIR BOARD OF SUPERVISOR MEMBERS.

THE LAST THING I'LL MENTION IS NUMBER TWO, THE SHAPE OF YOUR SHEEP.

AND I WANT THAT REPRESENTED BY THIS POEM THAT I FOUND PUBLISHED IN JULY OF THIS YEAR CALLED THINGS I LEARNED THIS YEAR, WRITTEN BY K-12 EDUCATORS.

THAT I NEED TO SLOW DOWN, TALK LESS AND LISTEN MORE.

THAT IT'S OK TO LET GO OF TRADITION IN FAVOR OF NEW THINGS.

THAT I CAN'T VALIDATE STUDENTS' EMOTIONS TOO MUCH OR TOO OFTEN.

THAT THE OUTDOORS ISN'T JUST FOR RECESS, SO MUCH LEARNING AND GROWTH CAN HAPPEN THERE.

THAT KIDS MIMIC THE ANXIETY OF ADULTS AROUND THEM.

THAT CLASSROOM COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING.

THAT WHATEVER ENGAGES MY STUDENTS IN THE MOMENT IS WHAT I SHOULD BE DOING, AND THAT TUNING IN AND BEING PRESENT BEATS CHECKING THINGS OFF MY LIST.

SO I ENCOURAGE EDUCATORS AT EVERY LEVEL, WHETHER YOU BE A TEACHER, AN IA, A BUS DRIVER OR ANY OTHER PERSON THAT WORKS IN OUR SCHOOL DIVISION, REFLECT ON THESE THINGS AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND YOU'RE STILL DOING A GREAT JOB.

CHANGE THE RULES TO ALLOW PUBLIC COMMENT ON ACTION ITEMS JUST LIKE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS DOES FOR ITS BUSINESS MEETINGS, INSTEAD OF FORCING CITIZENS TO CRAM THEIR COMMENTS INTO THREE MINUTES. THIS GIVES CITIZENS PARTICULAR TIME TO COMMENT ON THE ITEMS MORE RELEVANT TO THE REMARKS AND JUST LIKE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS DOES, THERE WOULD STILL BE GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT PERIODS AT THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF THE MEETING.

AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE SCHOOL BOARD USED TO HAVE A SYSTEM SET UP JUST LIKE THIS, BUT PREVIOUS SCHOOL BOARD UNDID THOSE CHANGES.

THE FOIA PROCESS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF WHERE THE DIVISION HAS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS PREPARE PEOPLE FOR THE FUTURE AND WE NEED BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS BECAUSE WE'RE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE INTERNSHIPS.

AND HOW SUCCESSFUL ARE WE? WELL, 24 HUNDRED STUDENTS, EXCUSE ME, OVER 24 HUNDRED CERTIFICATES TO GO INTO THE WORKFORCE WERE PROVIDED LAST YEAR, THAT MEANS THEY MET THE STATE REQUIREMENTS.

SO, WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO FIND OUT WHAT JOBS ARE NEEDED TO MAKE SURE OUR CHILDREN HAVE THE REQUIRED INTERNSHIPS THAT THEY MUST HAVE IN ORDER TO BE READY TO GO INTO THE JOB MARKET.

NOT EVERYONE'S GOING TO COLLEGE, BUT WE DO NEED A STRONGER WORKFORCE AND I'M VERY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE PLACING AND WHERE WE'RE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD AND MAKING SURE THAT WE PROVIDE THE WORKERS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR OUR COMMUNITY IN A REGION.

VIRTUAL LEARNING IS MANY OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE DO NOT EVEN HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY. AND SO AS LATE AS EVERYTHING CAME OUT IN SEPTEMBER, WE WERE PREPARING TO OFFER VIRTUAL LEARNING AND WE STILL ARE AND WE STILL ARE ADDING TO THAT.

BUT WE WEREN'T GOING TO HIRE AN OVERABUNDANCE OF PEOPLE WITHOUT THE STAFF INVOLVED AND TRYING TO FIND OTHER PEOPLE TO KEEP VIRTUAL.

WE STILL ARE, BUT WE HAVE A OPPORTUNITY OF 90 PERCENT OF OUR PEOPLE ARE IN IN FACE LEARNING AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

JUST TO CLARIFY SOMETHING THAT ESSER FUNDING WAS NOT TIED TO REQUIREMENTS OF COVID.

AND I THINK IT'S A 20 PERCENT OF FUNDING HAD TO GO TO INSTRUCTION, AND I THINK WE'RE ABOUT 62 PERCENT OF OUR ESSER FUNDING GOING TO INSTRUCTION.

WE HAVE PLACED THAT FUNDING INTO SCHOOLS AND IT WAS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE STUDENT COUNT, NOT THROUGH REGULATIONS OR GUIDELINES.

AND LASTLY, WE ARE WORKING WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH FROM VIRGINIA AND WITH THE CHESTERFIELD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ON ISSUES SUCH AS TESTING, THE BOOSTER SHOT, WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT 6-12, WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT THE 5-11.

WE'RE NOT MANDATING ANYTHING, BUT WE ARE REQUIRED TO WORK WITH THEM TO OFFER TO PEOPLE WHO DO WANT THAT OPPORTUNITY.

AND WE ARE WORKING WITH THE BOOSTER PROGRAM RIGHT NOW TO GET THEIR GUIDANCE.

THEY ARE NOT MOVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, BUT WE WILL KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED ON IT AS WE DO WITH OUR THURSDAY INFORMATION ON COVID INFORMATION, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE INSTRUCTION, IMPROVE OUR TEACHERS OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP THEM.

IT IS A VERY STRESSFUL TIME AND I WOULD NOT DISAGREE WITH ANYONE SAID THAT THIS IS NOT JUST A PRESSURE SITUATION EVERY DAY, BUT WE ARE IN WEEK EIGHT AND WE'RE GETTING THROUGH THIS AND I'M CONFIDENT THAT THERE'S LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO OUR CONSTITUENTS, LISTEN TO OUR TEACHERS AND LISTEN TO OUR STUDENTS ON HOW WE CAN MAKE THEIR LIFE A LITTLE EASIER IN THE BUILDINGS AND AT HOME.

I'VE HEARD ALL KINDS OF IDEAS, SUCH AS BRINGING MASSEUSE IN FOR ON THE SPOT MASSAGES, FEEDING THEM WONDERFUL LUNCHES, BUYING T-SHIRTS AND GIVING THEM TIME OFF.

THE REALIZATION I'VE COME TO IS THAT TEACHERS JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO TEACH.

THEY WANT TO STOP TESTING FOR DATA GATHERING, STOP COVERING CLASSES FOR QUARANTINE STAFF.

STOP PUTTING THEMSELVES IN HARM'S WAY TO BREAK UP FIGHTS BETWEEN STUDENTS AND START BEING TREATED WITH RESPECT.

THEY JUST WANT TO TEACH.

TEACHERS WANT TO DO WHAT THEY LOVE.

LET'S TEACH CHILDREN.

FOCUS ON ACADEMICS AND NURTURE THEM.

THE BEST THING WE CAN DO FOR OUR TEACHERS IS TO PROVIDE THEM WITH A SAFE, RESPECTFUL, SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT.

OUR STUDENTS ARE STRUGGLING AS WELL, BUT IT WILL NOT HELP THEM TO CONDONE OR OVERLOOK

IT WILL NOT HELP OUR STUDENTS GROW TO BE SUCCESSFUL ADULTS.

IF WE DO NOT SET THE BOUNDARIES THAT SOCIETY DICTATES THAT THEY FOLLOW.

OUR SCHOOLS RIGHT NOW ARE DIFFICULT PLACES FOR OUR TEACHERS.

OUR SCHOOLS ARE DRAINING OUR TEACHERS BECAUSE OUR STUDENTS ARE NOT ADJUSTING TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF A TYPICAL SCHOOL DAY.

OUR TEACHERS NEED TO HEAR THE MESSAGE THAT OUR SCHOOLS WILL NOT TOLERATE THE POOR BEHAVIOR CURRENTLY BEING DEMONSTRATED IN SOME OF OUR CLASSROOMS. THESE ARE DIFFICULT TIMES, AND THIS YEAR MAY BE ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT YEARS A TEACHER NAVIGATES DURING THEIR CAREER.

SO WHAT CAN I DO AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER TO HELP OUR TEACHERS? I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OUR SUPERINTENDENT TO INSTRUCT OUR PRINCIPALS TO TAKE AS MUCH OFF THE PLATES OF TEACHERS AS POSSIBLE.

LET THEM DO ONLY THOSE THINGS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE GOAL OF EDUCATION.

I WOULD LIKE THE SUPERINTENDENT TO CONTINUE HIS SUPPORT OF HR AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT SO THAT WE CAN FILL OUR VACANT DRIVER POSITIONS SO TEACHERS CAN STOP COVERING STUDENTS BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL DUE TO TRANSPORTATION ISSUES.

DR. DAUGHERTY, PLEASE PROVIDE US WITH AN UPDATE IN NOVEMBER AS TO THE PROGRESS AT CCPS IS MADE TO FILL THESE VACANT POSITIONS SO OUR TEACHERS CAN GO HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY.

I WOULD LIKE OUR SUPERINTENDENT TO DIRECT HR TO HOLD A JOB FAIR FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS AND TO STREAMLINE THE APPLICATION PROCESS SO THAT WE CAN INCREASE THE NUMBER OF SUBSTITUTES AVAILABLE SO THAT OUR TEACHERS CAN STOP COVERING CLASSES DURING THEIR PLANNING PERIODS.

I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OUR SUPERINTENDENT TO EXPLORE ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES THAT WE CAN IMPLEMENT IN OUR SCHOOLS, SO THERE ARE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS CAN FEEL SAFE WITHIN THE HALLS OF OUR SCHOOLS.

I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OUR SUPERINTENDENT TO GIVE THE BOARD AN UPDATE IN NOVEMBER ON HOW STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES DEPARTMENT IS ASSISTING FAMILIES WHOSE CHILDREN ARE STRUGGLING ADJUSTING TO SCHOOL.

OUR TEACHERS CANNOT TEACH WHEN CHILDREN ARE SO DYSREGULATED THAT THEY ARE NEGATIVELY IMPACTING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT OF OTHERS.

FAMILIES NEED HELP.

THE CHILDREN NEED HELP AND TEACHERS NEED ADDITIONAL OPTIONS TO DEAL WITH THESE DIFFICULT SITUATIONS. LET'S GIVE OUR TEACHERS AND FAMILIES THESE OPTIONS.

OUR PARENTS CAN HELP OUR TEACHERS AS WELL.

AND A PERFECT WORLD, WE WOULD GET ALL OF OUR KIDS OFF SOCIAL MEDIA.

IT IS TOXIC TO THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND IT DISRUPTS THE SCHOOL DAY LIKE NOTHING EVER BEFORE.
