QUITE FRANKLY, IS A PACKED MEETING ROOM, WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE THE CITIZENS AND STAFF AND FAMILIES BE HERE TONIGHT. A COUPLE OF THINGS FOR THE PUBLIC MEETING ROOM. THE RISK MANAGEMENT HERE IS OUR PARTNERS OF THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT HAVE SHARED WITH US A COUPLE OF THINGS FOR THIS ROOM. THE RECOMMENDATION IS FOR THE DAIS AND STAFF SEATING AREAS THAT WE FOLLOW DEPARTMENT LEADER GUIDELINES CONTINUE TO WEAR OUR MASK UNLESS WE ARE SPEAKING, DRINKING OR EATING OR WE HAVE A MEDICAL OR RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION. A GLOBAL PANDEMIC QUICKLY SHIFTED THE MANNER AND THE PROCESS OF DELIVERING EDUCATION TO STUDENTS. TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, PARENTS AND STUDENTS ADAPTED QUICKLY TO ENSURE THAT LEARNING CONTINUED. WE ARE PROUD OF HOW THE COMMUNITY MADE IT THROUGH, AND WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT WE HAVE COME BACK TO OFFER FACE TO FACE LEARNING SINCE FEBRUARY. THIS PAST YEAR HAS ALSO SEEN SOCIAL UNREST AROUND MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY AND EVEN IN OUR OWN COMMUNITY. CCPS LOOKED AT DIFFERENT WAYS TO FOSTER AN ENVIRONMENT OF UNDERSTANDING AND UNITY AMONG STAFF, KNOWING THAT OUR CHILDREN WILL ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC ISSUES, EVERY STUDENT STAFF MEMBER SHOULD FEEL THAT THEY BELONG WHEN THEY WALK THROUGH OUR DOORS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR RACE OR THEIR CULTURAL BACKGROUND. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, WE'VE SEEN DISCUSSIONS AT THE NATIONAL, STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL ON THE TOPIC OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY. THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HAS REFERENCED STATE SUPERINTENDENTS MEMO 50-19, A SUMMARY OF THIS TOPIC IN THEIR READING LIST AS AN IMPORTANT POINT IN HISTORY OF RACIAL POLITICS IN THE LEGAL ACADEMY AND A BROADER CONVERSATION ABOUT RACE AND RACISM WITHIN THE UNITED STATES. WHILE THIS DISCUSSION IS OCCURRING AT A COLLEGIATE LEVEL THIS IS NOT PART OF VIRGINIA'S APPROVED CURRICULUM. AS SUCH, BECAUSE OUR SCHOOL DIVISION FOLLOWS STATE CURRICULUM IT'S NOT A PART OF [00:05:01] CHESTERFIELD APPROVED CURRICULUM. CRITICAL RACE THEORY IS NOT SUPPORTED BY MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD. IN CHESTERFIELD OUR GOAL IS UNITY, NOT DIVISION. THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS ASKED FOR A QUARTERLY LIST OF SCHEDULED UPCOMING FORMAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS WITHIN THE SCHOOL AND CENTRAL OFFICE. MY FRIEND POINTED OUT THAT CRITICAL RACE THEORY IS NOT BEING TAUGHT IN ANY K 12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES. WHAT DID I LEARN? THE SOCIAL MEDIA NARRATIVE ON CRT MISSES THE UNDERLYING NEED TO ENGAGE IN DISCUSSIONS ABOUT HOW TO TEACH OUR KIDS TO THINK CRITICALLY AND AVOID THE MISTAKES OF THE PAST. A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF HISTORY MUST INCLUDE MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES THE FULL HUMAN EXPERIENCE. IN A MAY 21ST 2021 ARTICLE AND DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION CLEVELAND HAYES FROM INDIANA UNIVERSITY POINTS OUT THE WAYS THAT CRITICAL RACE THEORY MIGHT BE APPLIED, NOT TAUGHT IN K-12 INSTRUCTION. I QUOTE, INVEST IN A CHILD'S EXPERIENCES. CHILDREN ARE NOT EMPTY SLATES, HAYES SAYS. HE THEREFORE INSTRUCTS HIS TEACHING STUDENTS TO USE CHILDREN'S LIVED EXPERIENCES TO FRAME CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGY THAT ALIGNS WITH STATE STANDARDS. TEACHERS CAN ALSO RECOGNIZE THE BRILLIANCE AND ABILITIES CHILDREN BRING TO SCHOOL. THEY'RE NOT THESE BROKEN CHILDREN WHO NEED TO BE FIXED. THAT'S NOT OUR JOB, HAYES SAYS. AND SO I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH AND HUMBLED TO MAKE A THANK YOU VIDEO FOR YOU GUYS. I'M NOT SURE IF THEY SENT IT TO YOU AND YOU HAVE SEEN IT OR NOT, BUT THAT'S JUST THAT'S REALLY GREAT. AND THE PASSION THAT YOU GUYS HAVE FOR THOSE CAUSES IS AMAZING. SO WHAT I'LL DO IS I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU EACH A BAG, BUT I WANT YOU GUYS TO MAYBE JUST GIVE A QUICK SECOND ON WHY THAT TOPIC IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. AND WE CHOSE THE TOPIC OF GUN RIGHTS BECAUSE WE FELT IT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT IN OUR COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY AS WHAT WE WERE SEEING OUT IN THE WORLD, EVERYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING AND IS KIND OF SCARY. AT THE SAME TIME, WHAT WE'RE LEARNING ABOUT IT, IT WAS KIND OF EYE OPENING TO SEE, YOU KNOW, WHAT WAS GOING ON AND TO ACTUALLY RESEARCH THE FACTS VERSUS JUST, YOU KNOW, WATCHING SOMETHING AND BELIEVING IT IMMEDIATELY. AND WE TRY TO MAKE IT AS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED IN THE OPINIONS OF BOTH SIDES BECAUSE WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN PEOPLE SAW IT, THEY DIDN'T JUST SEE ONE SIDE OF THE ISSUE. AND WE HAD INTERVIEWED 4 PEOPLE, SOMEONE WHO WAS AFFECTED PERSONALLY BY GUN VIOLENCE, SOMEONE WHO IS A POLITICAL LEADER IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR STATE, AS WELL AS ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL. AND THEN SOMEONE WHO WAS A POLICE OFFICER WHO HAD 30 PLUS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH CRIMES THAT INVOLVED THAT AND SOMEONE WHO WAS AN ACTIVIST FOR GUN RIGHTS. AND I REALLY ENJOYED GETTING TO WORK ON THIS FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS OF MY FIRST 8TH GRADE YEAR. HI I'M ELLA. I THINK IT WAS IMPORTANT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, SEEING THE [INAUDIBLE] IS DIFFERENT THAN DIGGING DEEPER. LIKE KENNEDY SAID, UNDER THE SURFACE, YOU KNOW, SEEING WHAT YOU SEE, JUST LIKE, SO TO SPEAK, SKIN DEEP AND TALKING TO ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO HAD THESE AMAZING STORIES, JUST LIKE SHE SAID WAS EYE OPENING. AND HEARING THEM FOR YOURSELF IS LIKE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE THAN JUST WATCHING THE NEWS AND HEARING THE HEADLINES. AND I THINK KENNEDY SAID IT RATHER WELL, SO. HI I'M KESSLER AND I CHOSE CYBER SECURITY BECAUSE WELL IT'S A TOPIC THAT YOU DON'T HEAR ABOUT A LOT. SO AND THIS YEAR IS A REALLY SORRY I'M NOT GOOD AT THIS. CHIEF ASPECTS OF THIS POLICY INCLUDE ALLOWING STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN GENDER SEPARATED PROGRAMS THAT BEST ALIGN WITH THEIR GENDER IDENTITY, USE OF RESTROOM AND LOCKER ROOM FACILITIES THAT CORRESPOND WITH THE STUDENT'S GENDER IDENTITY, AND REQUIRING MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WITHIN OUR DIVISION TO DO YEARLY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO BETTER AID THEIR SUPPORT OF LGBTQ PLUS STUDENTS. COINCIDING WITH THAT IT'S ALSO TIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT OUR FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION CURRICULUM AND HOW WE DECIDE TO IMPLEMENT THE VDOE SOL HERE IN THIS SCHOOL DIVISION. IT'S CRITICAL THAT THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT THAT IS TRYING TO BE REACHED THROUGH NEW POLICY, 10 15 SHOULD ALSO BE REFLECTED IN OUR CURRICULA, NAMELY OUR FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION CURRICULUM. THE SCHOOL BOARD MUST COMMIT TO ENSURING THAT WHEN THERE IS A REVISION OF FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION CURRICULUM WITHIN CCPS FOLLOWING CHANGES TO THE VDOE CURRICULUM, THAT THOSE REVISIONS ARE INCLUSIVE OF DIVERSE GENDER IDENTITY AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION. A FRIEND OF MINE AT JAMES RIVER HAS REACHED OUT TO ME ON THIS MATTER SEVERAL TIMES. BUT THIS IS ALSO SOMETHING CCPS CAN TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY ON TO REALLY TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOWARDS INCLUSIVE CITY IN OUR CURRICULUMS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF REASONS WHY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN CAN'T CONTINUE IN A REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. SO WE SHOULD STOP THINKING ABOUT A REGULAR SCHOOL DAY IN THIS MANNER FOR SOME OF OUR STUDENTS. THE OTHER OPPORTUNITY IS WHEN WE THINK ABOUT THE STUDENTS WHO NEED ADDITIONAL HELP AND SOMETIMES AN ALTERNATIVE ALTERNATIVE SETTING IS PERFECT. THE BEST EXAMPLE IS THE THREE SIXTY PROGRAM FOR OUR OVER AGE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. THEY DO A PHENOMENAL JOB. AND SO WE'RE WORKING HARD. WE'RE GOING TO USE COVID FOR SOME COLLEGE FOR GRADUATION COACHES AND GO INTO COMMUNITIES WHERE WE KNOW THEY'RE CHALLENGED AND ENCOURAGE OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL. COME ON, WE CAN GET YOU THROUGH THIS AND HELP THEM. YOU KNOW, WE'VE ALL NEEDED HELP, SOME MORE THAN OTHERS AND SOME SOMETIMES YOU'VE GOT TO PICK THEM UP AND HELP THEM GET THERE. BUT WE SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON STUDENTS, NEVER GIVE UP ON A STUDENT, JUST SOME OTHER THINGS. THE BOOKMOBILE I WAS EXCITED ABOUT THE BOOKMOBILE. WE HAVE A COPY OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. [INAUDIBLE] WELL, WE NEED TO GET THIS RUNNING FIRST THAT WE'LL GET OUT THERE. BUT THEY'RE EXCITED, THE PEOPLE WORKING, THE LADIES FROM THE CREEK, AS THEY CALL IT, AND ALSO WE HAVE A VAN FOR THE FACE PROGRAM WHERE WE'VE ALREADY HAD SCHOOLS SIGN UP [00:55:01] TO USE THIS VAN TO GO OUT AND DO PROGRAMS IN COMMUNITIES. EVERY YEAR YOU ADD A GRADE AND WE'RE GOING TO BE BRINGING TO THE BOARD NEXT YEAR, NEXT FALL AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT A COUPLE OF SCHOOLS WHERE WE CAN REALLY FULLY IMPLEMENT A TRUE IMMERSION PROGRAM TO OUR SYSTEM. AND I THINK PEOPLE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT OPPORTUNITY. YOU WON'T HAVE PLACES TO PLAY OPPORTUNITY. WE ARE WORKING WITH THE COUNTY AND VERY STRONG PARTNERSHIP HERE, WHICH WILL OPEN A FILE. THERE WILL BE SOME FINAL PLANS HERE ON COMBINING OUR DISTRICT OFFICES. THAT IS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SO WE CAN EXPAND OUR CTE PROGRAMING, ESPECIALLY IN GAMING AND PROGRAMING AND CYBERSECURITY AND OTHER TECH AREAS THAT THE COMMUNITY BUSINESS AREA SAYING WE WILL HIRE YOUR STUDENTS EVEN BEFORE THEY GET OUT OF SCHOOL, IF YOU TRAIN THEM, AND SO WE KNOW THERE'S A JOB MARKET AND WE BELIEVE OUR STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO SCHOOL, GET A JOB OR DO BOTH AND GREAT OPPORTUNITY. WE WILL WE WILL DOUBLE THE SIZE OF OUR CTE PROGRAMMING. ONCE THIS OCCURS AND THE GOAL IS THAT WE WILL OUR TARGET RIGHT NOW GOAL IS AUGUST OF 23 TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. AND FINAL TWO THINGS WE'RE REBRANDING AND PEOPLE SAY, WHAT ARE YOU REBRANDING? WELL, WE HAVE TO SHARE WHAT HAPPENS AT EVERY GRADE LEVEL. WE HAVE TO SHARE WHAT SCHOOL LOOKS LIKE. AND SO WE HAVE HAD I'VE SEEN MOST OF THE VIDEOS WHERE WE ARE TALKING IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH ON WHAT TO EXPECT AS A KINDERGARTEN STUDENT IN FIRST GRADE, WHAT TO EXPECT AS A SIXTH GRADER COMING IN, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF NEW FACES COMING IN. AND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THEY'VE BEEN OUT OF SOME OF OUR STUDENTS, BEEN OUT OF SCHOOL SINCE MARCH OF MARCH 13TH OF 2020. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE WELCOMING BACK IN OUR RETREAT THIS SUMMER FOR OUR ADMINISTRATORS. WE'LL TALK A LOT ABOUT THE WELCOME BACK OPPORTUNITY. AND THEN FINALLY, WE ARE DOING A STUDY ON RECESS AND LOOKING AT THAT. AND WE THINK WE SORT OF SOLVED THOSE ISSUES WHERE SCHOOLS ARE HAVING SOME OPPORTUNITIES. THE DIFFERENCE IS SORT OF NORMAL FLUCTUATION WITHIN STATE BUDGETS RELATED TO ADMIN, OTHER AND OTHER, YOU KNOW, IN THIS KIND OF LOOP. AND LOOK AT HOW WE MOVE IN THE DATA, HOW WE MOVE IN THE STUDENTS. THAT PROCESS IS GOING TO BE A YEAR PROCESS TO LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCURATE DATA. SO IF WE ARE EXAMPLE FOR LOOKING AT THE WAY TESTING IN THE FALL, WE'RE GIVING TO THE ADDITIONAL WORK WHO COULD HAVE BEEN MAYBE TWO OR THREE YEARS BEHIND? HOW MUCH GROWTH DID WE SEE? A LOT OF TIMES YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SEE GROWTH TO THE GRADE LEVEL. YOU'RE GOING TO SEE MAYBE ONE POINT FIVE TO TWO YEAR GROWTH, WHICH IS IT WAS AMAZING FOR SOME STUDENTS IN THAT AREA. SO WE ARE HOLDING ANY ANY ANYWHERE WE SPEND. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ACCOUNTABILITY, CHECK ON WHAT'S GOING ON. AND OUR GOAL IS AT THE NEXT YEAR, AT THIS TIME, WE'LL SAY HERE'S WHERE THE MONEY WENT. WE HAVE MULTIPLE STUDIES THAT PROVE THAT THE SCHOOL SETTING REMAINS ONE OF THE SAFEST, LOWEST RISK ENVIRONMENTS. THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WITHIN THE CCPS FAMILY THAT ONCE AGAIN WORKED SO HARD TO GET CHESTERFIELD STUDENTS AND FAMILIES A SAFE AND CONSTRUCTIVE SCHOOL YEAR. I HAVE A FORMER CCPS STUDENT IN COLLEGE AND OUR DAUGHTER IS A SENIOR COSBY. WE'VE BEEN VERY BLESSED, THE HARD WORK OF SO MANY AND THAT HELD TRUE AGAIN THIS YEAR. I HAVE COWORKERS WHO REPRESENT ALL THE CORNERS OF CHESTERFIELD AND I MEET NEW PEOPLE. THE CONVERSATION OFTEN TURNS TO OUR KIDS IN THEIR SCHOOLS. I'M HERE TONIGHT IN PERSON BECAUSE I THINK YOU DESERVE THAT TO TELL YOU THAT THE MAJORITY OF THOSE PARENTS WERE ABLE TO SHARE POSITIVE STORIES WITH ME. SURE, THERE WERE CHALLENGES AND FRUSTRATIONS FOR SOME VIRTUAL DOES NOT WORK FOR THAT PARTICULAR STUDENT, NOR THE HOME SITUATION. BUT I'VE ALSO TALKED WITH SOME PARENTS WHO SHARE VERY POSITIVE RESULTS, LIKE A SHY OR EASILY DISTRACTED CHILD WHO ACTUALLY EXCELLED WITH VIRTUAL LEARNING. I KNOW MOST TEACHERS NEVER SIGNED UP TO BE A VIDEO STAR, AND I APPRECIATE ALL THEY DID TO ADAPT TO THAT. IT WAS A TOUGH YEAR FOR ALL OF US. I WATCHED AND LISTENED AND I'M PROUD OF THE PEOPLE OF CHESTERFIELD SCHOOLS. YOU TOOK WHAT SEEMED LIKE A NO WIN SITUATION. YOU WORKED NONSTOP TO PROVIDE ALL THAT YOU COULD FOR EVERY CHILD AND FAMILY. YOU TAUGHT US YOU FED US, YOU KEPT US INFORMED YOU [INAUDIBLE] YOUR FRUSTRATIONS HOME TO YOUR OWN FAMILIES. LOTS OF EMAILS AND LONG PHONE CALLS, SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, LONG DAYS, HEARTBURN AND SOME TEARS. BUT FOR THE MOST PART, THE CHROME BOOKS WORK THE VIDEO AND THE SOUND WORKED AND THE INSTRUCTION MADE IT THROUGH. I'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT EACH OF YOU DID TO MAKE THIS WORK, BUT I KNOW THAT MY DAUGHTER LEARNED SOME MATH, SOME SCIENCE, SOME ENGLISH AND SOME HISTORY. THIS YEAR, MY LITTLE 5TH GRADE NEIGHBOR WHO ATTENDS BEULAH GOT ALL THAT HE NEEDED AND HE'S ABLE TO TEACH HIS MATH AND VIRGINIA HISTORY TO ME IN OUR FRONT YARDS IN THE EVENINGS. [LAUGHER] COSBY'S PRINCIPAL, MR. SNYDER, STARTED EVERY SCHOOL DAY WITH HIS MORNING VIDEO AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. MY COWORKERS AND I ENJOYED MANY MORNINGS SAYING THE PLEDGE ALONG WITH HIM AND A MOMENT OF SILENCE TO START OUR DAY. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT OUR DAUGHTER WILL SOON BE A CERTIFIED EMT TECHNICIAN. THANKS TO MR. LEWIS AND THE TECHS CENTER TEAM, THE CLASS OF 2021 WILL SUCCEED THEY'RE COLLEGE BOUND READY AND THANKS TO THE TECH CENTER'S MANY STUDENTS, WILL WALK RIGHT INTO A JOB THAT THEY LOVE AND EARN A GOOD LIVING. BUS DRIVERS, TEACHERS, FOOD SERVICE STAFF, CUSTODIAL AND MAINTENANCE CREWS, ADMINISTRATION AND ALL SUPPORT. EVERYONE DID THEIR PART WHILE WEIGHING HOW IT MIGHT AFFECT THEIR OWN FAMILIES. HEROES AGAIN ROSE TO THE OCCASION AND THE WORK GOT DONE. TEACHERS TEACH BECAUSE THEY LOVE CHILDREN AND KNOWLEDGE. I'VE WITNESSED THEM WORK EXTRA HARD TO GET EVERY STUDENT WHAT THEY NEED. HE HAS HAD LESS THAN HALF OF HIS PRESCRIBED EDUCATIONAL HOURS SINCE COVID SHUT DOWN LESS THAN HALF. I HAVE BEEN BEGGING AND ADVOCATING FOR HIM SINCE THE BEGINNING AND I FIND I KIND OF SAY THIS IN JEST, BUT TRUTH MANY TIMES THERE, THERE'S NOT A TEAM IN IEP TEAM. IT IS OFTEN. SCHOOL OFFICIAL AGAINST THE FAMILY AND THE CHILD. IT'S NOT EASY TO TAKE WHEN ONE PERSON OVERRIDES DOCTORS PRESCRIPTIONS FOR ASSISTANCE THAT YOUR CHILD NEEDS. AND WE'RE HERE AGAIN, THAT'S BEEN FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE PAST. WE'RE HERE AGAIN ON THE VERGE OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT. AND I'M EXTRA NERVOUS BECAUSE MY SON IS NOT ABLE TO LIVE WITH ME, IN LARGE PART BECAUSE OF JUST HAVING NO SCHEDULE, NO SUPPORT. HIS REGRESSIONS ARE TREMENDOUS AND WE NEEDED HELP AND SUPPORT AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT SOMEHOW WITH HALF OF HIS EDUCATION HOURS AND WE'RE STILL WORKING THROUGH THIS. I'VE WORKED ON THIS FOR MONTHS TO TRY TO WHERE DOES HE STAND? WE DIDN'T DO RECOVERY OF LEARNING LAST YEAR. THAT JUST DID NOT HAPPEN. WHERE DO WE STAND? HOW DO WE EVALUATE WHAT WE NEED? WHEN MY SON RECEIVED HALF OF HIS EDUCATION, LESS THAN HALF, BUT HE'S GETTING ON STRAIGHT A'S. THERE'S SOMETHING NOT RIGHT HERE. AND I KNOW WHAT IT IS. AND I JUST WANT TO SEE THAT. THE ISSUES ARE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. THERE IS A LOT OF RECTIFYING THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR. THERE IS THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS. DR. AS WE WIND DOWN THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A BRIEF LOOK BACK AND CELEBRATE, AS WELL AS LOOK AHEAD TO NEW OPPORTUNITIES. TWO YEARS AGO, MANY OF US WERE CAMPAIGNING FOR YOU AS OUR FUND COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED FOUR OF YOU. AND THE FIFTH WAS JUST SIMPLY TOO TOUGH OF A DECISION TO MAKE, BUT STILL SUPPORTED BOTH CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR THAT PARTICULAR DISTRICT. AND HERE WE ARE NOW WITH A COUPLE OF THE TOUGHEST SCHOOL YEARS ALMOST BEHIND [02:25:01] US. AND THE ADVOCACY WILL AND MUST CONTINUE. MEMBERS OF THE CHESTERFIELD EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SUPPORTED AND TURNED OUT IN RECORD NUMBERS BECAUSE THEY SAW THE VALUE IN EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. YOUR EMPLOYEES ARE TALENTED, CREATIVE AND LOYAL. EVEN IN A PANDEMIC, THEY HAVE NOT ONLY SURVIVED, BUT THEY HAVE ALSO SHOWN A LEVEL OF CREATIVITY AND ENGAGEMENT VIRTUALLY WITH THEIR STUDENTS WITH NO BLUEPRINT THAT IS TO BE CELEBRATED AND UPLIFTED AS OUR UNION TRANSITIONS IN LEADERSHIP KNOW THAT IN ANY WORKFORCE SECTOR, WHEN THE COMPANY AND THE UNION WORK WELL TOGETHER, THE PROFIT MARGINS ARE HIGH IN EDUCATION THERE ARE NO MONETARY PROFIT MARGINS. SO WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF WORKING WELL WITH YOUR UNION? A HAPPY WORKFORCE, A CONSISTENT WORKFORCE WITH HIGH RETENTION RATE, WHICH ULTIMATELY RESULTS IN HIGH TEST SCORES AND HIGH ON TIME GRADUATION RATES. HOW DO WE GET THERE SUPPORT FROM YOU THE SCHOOL BOARD WORK ACTIVELY TO RE CRAFT POLICIES THAT ARE LESS PUNITIVE TOWARDS THE EMPLOYEES AND CREATE NEW PRACTICES THAT ALLOW FOR CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. FINALLY, THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING THAT WAS SHARED. EACH OF YOU AT THE END OF LAST WEEK AND WILL BE SHARED WITH YOU AGAIN TONIGHT SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED AS A SMALL FIRST STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OF A STRENGTHENED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DIVISION AND CEA. OUR ULTIMATE GOAL UNDER OUR PRESIDENT ELECT, CHRISTINE MELENDEZ, IS TO GAIN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. WE KNOW THAT THIS IS A MARATHON AND NOT A SPRINT. OTHER SCHOOL DIVISIONS ARE ALREADY FARTHER ALONG IN THIS PROCESS AND THAT IS OK. CEA IS HERE TO HELP EACH ONE OF YOU TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE BENEFITS AS WELL AS SOME OF THE DRAWBACKS OF NEGOTIATIONS AND ULTIMATELY COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE CEA PREFER TO WORK WITH YOU, THE CCPS SCHOOL BOARD. WE CAN SHOW YOU THE WAY TO ACHIEVE THIS END.
