On being called to order, the School Board will adjourn immediately into closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, in accordance with the following subsections:
(2) discussion and consideration of matters that would involve the disclosure of student records; and,
(8) consultation with legal counsel employed by the school division regarding specific legal matters requiring legal advice.
The agenda was updated on Sept. 12 at 8:43 a.m. to reflect the addition of an item to the closed session.
Consent Agenda item 3.03 -- Memo #082-17: Recommended Personnel Actions -- was updated on Sept. 12 at 12:36 p.m. to reflect the addition of an addendum.
The School Board encourages public participation at regular meetings. The order of business of any regular meeting shall include opportunities for the public to address the School Board as provided in School Board Policy 1110. Please refer to the policy for specific procedures for Public Hearings, Action Items, and the Public Comment portion of the agenda.
Following is the procedure by which the public may speak before the School Board:
Persons wishing to be heard on action items must notify the Clerk by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting; they will be heard when each item is considered. Persons who have requested to offer comment on subjects related to Chesterfield County Public Schools not a subject for public hearing and not an action item will be heard during the specified public comment period of the meeting.
Persons wishing to speak during the Public Comment Period are asked to notify the Clerk by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting and to provide the specific subject of the schools-related comments to be offered. Individuals shall limit their comments to three minutes. The Chairman may further limit the time allotted to speakers and the number of speakers in order to ensure the orderly conduct of the meeting and the conclusion of the meeting at a reasonable time. When limiting the number of speakers, the Chairman shall give priority to those who did not speak during the public comment period of the immediately previous meeting.
Upon adjournment of the public business meeting, the School Board will enter into closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, in accordance with the following subsections:
(1) discussion of the discipline of a (former) employee; and,
(4) protection of the privacy of individuals not related to public business.
Upon exiting the closed session, the Board will enter into a brief open session to (i) certify the Closed Session, (ii) conduct a public vote on the personnel matter discussed in closed session, and (iii) adjourn the meeting. No other votes will be take and no other public business will be discussed.
