This public hearing is to make our community aware that Chesterfield County Public Schools is in full compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
We use McAfee Web Gateway appliances for our technology protection. This product filters Internet activity for all users with appropriate filtering levels for elementary, secondary and adult users. Filtering occurs both at school and at home when students are using school division owned Chromebooks.
Our internet filtering measures protect against access by adults and minors to visual depictions that are obscene, including all forms of pornography, or material considered harmful to minors.
Our district policy includes monitoring the online activities of minors. Our Internet Safety Policy addresses the following as required by CIPA:
a. access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet and World Wide Web;
b. the safety and security of minors when using electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications;
c. unauthorized access, including so-called "hacking," and other unlawful activities by minors online;
d. unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal information regarding minors;
e. measures designed to restrict minors' access to materials harmful to minors; and
f. Educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms and cyberbullying awareness and response.

Persons wishing to be heard on action items must notify the Clerk’s office by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting; they will be heard when each item is considered.
Persons wishing to be heard on non-agenda items will be given the opportunity to speak before the School Board during the Public Comment section of the meeting. They must also notify the Clerk's office by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
Presentations to the School Board shall be limited to three minutes.
